@BreakingBourbon MSRP of $35 is crazy, I don't know why this isn't a permanent Old Fashioned mixer for people at least. 114 isn't in Australia because of the tax associated. There's $27 USD of alcohol tax alone on this in Aus, so with shipping, GST etc it'd retail around $60-70 USD. Insane!!!

@werbleworble @obky_bourbonite Vintage rye from this era is definitely worth $$ but the fill level is really bad. That much evaporation is going to make it hard to sell on. Definitely worth opening in my opinion!

@obky_bourbonite Not a big deal haha. The back and forth helps me remember my history and I always end up learning new details from this era that way So much of this history conflicts with itself so there's just often...no real clear answer? Appreciate hearing others perspectives on the topics

@werbleworble @obky_bourbonite I remember you sharing this in the past and it's still stumping me! Penmaryland Corp is weirdly confusing. National Distillers product from '41 would either by Mount Vernon or Broad Ford (Overholt) West Overton never reopened. Could be a blend of Vernon/Broad Ford? 🤷♂️

@obky_bourbonite I've seen quite a few 1921 distillates but not any 1922 distillates. Looks like Gwynbrook closed Jan 1922 which would explain why! Curious how these small producers acquired these loophole licenses but bigger firms didn't.

@obky_bourbonite Timing lines up. There's a bunch of 1921 ryes under Overholt and Mount Vernon kicking around but I'm yet to run into many '22s. This is a '21 from Gwynbrook which was Maryland so looks like these rye producers snuck in a couple extra years production using the loophole.

@obky_bourbonite Oooo I gotta see it! I know they closed West Overton and Broad Ford during prohibition. But Large was still producing with Overholt bottling. Maybe 1921 was that loophole for Large. According to Laura's research Gwynbrook was definitely producing until the early 1920s though.

@MstlyPcflBourbn Seeing an open bosshog, let alone a finished one, is a rarity today with the outrageous retail price.

@d_tao 2025 and folks and the wider market is still ignoring Dickel product just.....because? The 15+yo Dickel single casks I've had from EU bottlers are top notch. Pure burnt brown sugar, outrageously delicious.

@dylanrettinger @d_tao @RBird101 @WildTurkey @RussellsReserve @FirebirdBo I believe we're trying to line up with Bruce. I've done some extensive research on the Fort Nelson rickhouses and their heritage. Owned by Curley/Boone Knoll, their storage of terrible Kentucky River Distilling bourbon etc Baxus article on Cabin Still & FN ricks coming soon!

@FinderBourbon @t8ke_drinks Cognac value is absurd. You can buy 50yo+ single cask Cognacs for less than a new NDP bourbon retailer. Mate in Aus bottles Cognac and you can get these kinds of bottles for nuts prices: (that's equivalent $261 USD for a 700ml 55yo single cask Cognac)

Crazy old wood varnish and a healthy dose of oak tannin in this. Shared it with some local bar owners in Melbourne and my dad. All found it super interesting!

@MstlyPcflBourbn @alancornett @DONKeedik5 Come to think of it none jump out off the top of my head! I've seen older 101 proofs like this 20yo Barton from the early 80s. And there were quite a few high teen prohibition era BIBs. Modern bottles though? I can't think of anyone who does 19+yo BIB releases other than HH!

@d_tao 100%. With the restrictions on bourbon's production they all realistically start out as a baseline of caramel/oak/vanilla. Malt whisky has a much wider variety of potential flavours as so many different cask types can be used. Is malt better? That's just personal preference.
