🥃 "Truth is a journey, not a destination." Best-Selling Author turning people onto real whiskey history ✈️🎧Fly with me to great craft distilleries on WL Pod
Joined May 2009
The "Great 48 Tour" makes its way into the Volunteer State. After a 3 hour drive from Paducah, I spent time at @OldDominick901 signing copies of the Lost History of Tennessee Whiskey and chatting with Keith, Olivia (thanks for the great pic by the way) and the rest of the staff. It's one of my favorite places to stop - a beautiful distillery in the heart of Memphis. Today, I'm sharing my conversation with guide Keith Renard on the Whiskey Lore Podcast. His passion for Memphis history shows through and he carries a wealth of knowledge about Old Dominick and the brand's evolution. We'll talk about what to expect on the tour, tales of Prohibition deception, and the origins of the Memphis Toddy. This Old Dominick conversation is available on Spotify, Apple and all major podcast apps or Patreon members can get bonus minutes in the interview at Enjoy stop 2, as I make my way to a craft distillery in each of the 48 contiguous United States. Follow the Great 48 Tour and see distillery profiles at: Cheers and slainte mhath! Drew

@obky_bourbonite @bourbinfo @DavindeK I would agree. The Taylors have found some great Canadian whiskies for their blends. And they are transparent about what is in the bottle.

@d_tao Honestly, I tried YouTube shorts and that is the only place I get negative comments. I've just assumed TikTok would be similar.

@alancornett @obky_bourbonite It's possible William Henry Harrison did too. There are questions surrounding it. Those are the commercial affairs. It's likely James Madison, Monroe, and maybe even the Adams had a still. Jefferson wasn't a fan of whiskey, but that doesn't mean he might not have distilled brandy

@bourbinfo @BourbonLens I've got some bottles that have been opened 4-5 years. My palate is just not good enough to taste a decline in those-I guess.

Such an important consideration in writing about history - knowing what things were like back then, rather than thinking people had the same circumstances as we do today. Thanks for sharing highlights from the book @obky_bourbonite
Before the industrial revolution, distilling was a local affair. A distiller’s reputation only traveled as far as a horse and buggy or sailing ship could carry it.

Welcome to a little hidden gem in the southeast corner of Oklahoma. @HochatownDist is a distillery that cut its way through the red tape of getting a distillery started in a notoriously "dry" state. Hear the journey as I chat with Blue McDaniel, who has gone from bringing people to the area through his property management to now boosting tourism with a distillery stop well worth checking out - in a beautiful area of Oklahoma that is filled with beautiful scenery (and not the prairie you might expect. Check out the podcast at or Whiskey Lore Podcast on your favorite podcast app. Cheers and slainte mhath, Drew

Great questions as always Mark. Enjoyed shedding some light on a few whisky myths! Cheers
This week on WhiskyCast, we'll bust some #whisky myths with @whiskeylore author Drew Hannush. We'll also have the latest on President Trump's plans to impose tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, along with the Canadian response.
