Parents, last two weeks I have been to NBA, NAIA, D2, D1 and prep practices. Trust me communication and playing with a motor has been needed for each. Every level will require it even if that’s not your child’s personality. They will have to become comfortable being uncomfortable
Really feel the need to say this, College Basketball on any level is difficult. Development, development development..please allow your child time to develop. Only 2% of college freshmen play over 12 min per game forget what you see on ESPN or hear. Paths are unique embrace yours
We really need to stop talking about college basketball like it’s easy. No matter the level if you are in college on a team you are winning. Less than 6% of high school players in the US are even playing college basketball. I daily celebrate the young men at WAU. 👏🏾👏🏾👊🏾💪🏾
@DukeMBB
People say a lot of things but I always look at their actions. Coach K’s coaching tree and his development of black HC coaches to take on leadership positions is the example of how to put action to power.
I’ve been a HS & AAU coach for over 25 years and I still can’t understand coaches that keep their top players from talking to D2, D3 and NAIA college coaches. Even if they are D1 talent to you, knowing coaches on all levels can’t be negative. 🤷🏾♂️
@CoachHixonDimes
They aren’t really interested in that school. Honestly the move probably doing both a favor. As a college coach you never want to bring someone in that really thinks he/she is better than your program. It’s really cancerous to your culture.
At WAU we value relationships and teaching daily. You can’t talk about development or culture until you value the relationships. Walk one step at a time before you run a 5K.
Old enough to remember when family was happy you were going to college, now some players aren’t even going to college if it’s not the level they feel they are. Please make it make sense to me!
Season is officially over 22-8, felt we were good enough to get one of the NAIA At-Large bids. We didn’t, so we must get better. Shoutout to Michael Liriano for becoming the winningest player in WAU men’s basketball history (87 wins). 👏🏾👏🏾👊🏾❤️
Really enjoyed coaching this group
Yessir! Nothing like that feeling you get when you get that call from your first recruit as a college head coach and he is committed to your vision. This me all day today!! Let’s go
Blessed, humbled and excited, another recruit committed, another trip to see 2022 talent and another opportunity for my roster to get better. God really has been good to the WAU Family! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Defend at a high level and make shots. In college no matter the level, if you can defend at a high level and make shots, you will get an opportunity. What you do with that opportunity is up to you.
NAIA Washington Adventist University.....Gotta few games available need 1 or 2 D1 games to complete our schedule. Power 5, Mid-major, Low D1 doesn’t matter just need the bump! 🏀 Help me out coaches. 🤷🏾♂️💪🏾
Really enjoyed watching all these young men play during this AAU season.
Word of advice, play to win the game. We are college coaches and smart enough to figure all the other stuff out. Tomorrow I want to see the most competitive games I have seen all summer!
Ok let me try this social media recruiting thing to see if it works for me.
Need a 6’7+ post player that runs and is an athletic rim protector in this 2021 class. DM me some videos. If I get one DM of a guard or someone under 6’6 that isn’t athletic, social recruiting over! 😂
The KD MLK Classic will be the best event during this time period next year or two. Well run, competitive, organized, prime location with academic piece for teams. What more can HS administrators and coaches ask for. Great job
@Bballpop
and his staff.
Everyone that really knows me knows exactly what graduation means to me. When players commit we work on winning championships and graduating! So proud of my players on and off the court. 👏🏾👏🏾👨🏽🎓
Came up short yesterday at Talladega in the NAIA National Tournament 79-70 to Talladega to end our season. Can’t express enough how thankful I am to coach these young men. We will miss our seniors Mastadi Pitt and Dwayne Garner! Love you dudes.

I hate that social media has made young players think all they need to do is make one big play and it will change everything for them. Reality is they need to make a lot of little plays consistently just to get the opportunity to be on the floor.
AAU and HS coaches you can really help your kids recruiting out if you put both first and last names in the book. “Luke”, “Mike” and “Rob C” might not be someone everyone you want to recruit your players know on first name basis. 🤷🏾♂️
Congratulations to
@Chase_Teichmann
and Florida College for playing an outstanding game and winning the
@CAC_SportsNAIA
Mens Basketball Championship. Proud of my guys and excited to be chosen to lead them. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
KD, BYB, Beasley, Nolan, Keith, Curtis, Butch, DeMatha, Navarro, Lou, PG Jaguars, PG History, Takeover, DC Premier, Durant and Coach Frese... a lot of ❤️❤️❤️
Great seeing all the talented players in the DMV at DeMatha this weekend. This was by far the best event I saw of the HS Live Period. Great job Marc and
@CapitolHoops
for putting the
@DMVLiveDeMatha
event together. 👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾
@ByPatForde
“Something called Washington Adventist?” It’s clear you know nothing about college athletic but don’t ever disrespect hard working people that understand it because you are ignorant to it.
I’m happy to have the opportunity to speak today at Virginia Academy want to say thanks to their staff for having me. We are also excited Shyheim Gilkerson sign today with the Washington Adventist University Family!

Special thanks to my friend, coaching mentor and brother
@CoachSutton
. Some guys hope you fail, while others like Coach Sutton pray for your success. Needless to say prayer works. Thanks Coach! 👊🏾💪🏾
Proud of Darius Huff, one of the biggest reasons we have back to back 20 win seasons. Got his 1,000 college career point mark todays in our victory over Fisher College. We got better at Washington Adventist University the moment he stepped on campus. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
When players create their own 6am conditioning workouts two weeks after the season you can’t help but get excited about the pre-season plan and their development. 👏🏾👏🏾
Jeff Van Gundy was on point tonight when he said, “It’s drive and skill level, some people have drive and no skill level and others have skill level and no drive but the great ones have both.”
Looking for January and February Men’s College Basketball games from D1, D2 or NAIA teams in the Mid-Athletic area. DM me some dates and let’s bump. ✊🏽🙌🏾👏🏾🙏🏾💪🏾🏀
Family is real not just a slogan at WAU. They start early learning the importance and being part of something bigger. Leni refuses to be left out of the post practice huddle! 😂
Watching film of high school games and my first thought: “Teaching players the importance of playing off two feet can really change the effectiveness of your offense.”
Our season ended but not our journey together. Thank you Seniors for everything you have done and for your endurance throughout this season. I love this team and WAU, can’t express how blessed I am to be on Flower Avenue. Congratulations to Grace College and Coach Moore!
Graduating 3 productive seniors from a 22-8 team. 2023-2024 Class we are looking for two athletic post players that can accept coaching, wants to develop and can contribute right away to a winning culture. We will welcome you to Washington Adventist University and DC.

Fun time last night at awards banquet. I appreciate these guys, they have blessed me with back to back 20 win seasons and this Coach of The Year honor from Washington Adventist University. I am grateful and appreciative.
@waumbb
@waushock
Can we please stop it with all the crazy era talk 🤦🏽♂️? Dudes who can score could score in any era. Wilt, Oscar, Bird, KD, Jordan, Kareem, LeBron, Melo, they all would have figured it out no matter the era. Y’all honestly think there was nothing in their era they had to go through
You can definitely tell the difference between those that play basketball and those that really play basketball when the refs don’t call a lot of fouls! Players always figure it out 🤷🏾♂️
At 51 I still enjoy my visits from my 31 y/o son
@Coach_Mac2
. I really appreciate how he looks at the dudes I coach as his little brother and tries to give them words of wisdom.
Attention is a dangerous drug. It can make those with good intentions miss their God given purpose and those with a mission forsake their mission. Remember your compass and clock and keep it in sync. You have no time to waste... 👊🏾💪🏾🙏🏾
Spoke with my sister in Houston and they are safe. Nothing in the world feels better than hearing a love ones voice when you are concerned. Praying for everyone in Texas

So happy to have had the opportunity to coach 6’9 Devon Flowers! After a great one on one conversation today he has decided to graduate this year and explore playing D1 again for the next two seasons. Proud of this dude and 22-11 season we had together. 16ppg & 8 rebs

Parents and coaches we have to change the narrative. Education is still very valuable and the life experiences that go with college. We gotta stop the “D1 or bust” because everyone is not a D1 player and it’s making kids that can play in college think they are failures if not D1
Easy to see on Day 2 6’7 Sophomore Dreylan Creasy of Blue Ridge School got next! On a team full of D1 level talent for the Barons, the young forward showed he can impact winning with or without the basketball. His stock is definitely rising!
Coaches have always copied the NBA good or bad. College and HS coaches follow those trends, they have never followed AAU. So can we please stop blaming AAU for everything negative, it’s a bad excuse for failure and players learn as much from our actions as from what we say.
Classroom and basketball court, must be productive in both at Washington Adventist University. Proud of these dudes but we still can be better on and off the court. Multiple All-Conference and All-Academic players with Team GPA 3.08 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
@CoachSherm5
@coach_dkelly
Only 6% of high school basketball players play in college. If you aren’t good enough to make your high school team, there is no way you will make a college team. What’s the point? 🤷🏾♂️
People really have no idea how tough you have to be mentally at this young stage to be Bronny. Kid can play and he takes more smoke for what he isn’t than for what he is. I love what I have seen from him, plays the game the right way.
Happy 25th Birthday to my Gemini ♊️ twin, my heart ❤️, my daughter!
Jaryn make today and everyday great and a step closer to your goals.
@SimplySimbaa
love you with all my heart.
Washington Adventist University Men’s Basketball Developmental Squad is looking for 4-6 more home and games with JV or CC teams with 150 miles of the DC area. DM me if you have available JV games.
Tough loss tonight to a good and well coached Iowa Wesleyan team 53-49 in our CAC Conference semifinals. So proud of these dudes, we came up short tonight but the brotherhood is real. Love ❤️ these dudes with all my heart!

In the final game of Day 2 at the Big Bob Classic it was sophomore guard Darius Bivins leading a balanced Titans attack to victory over National Christian. His ability to handle the ball and make plays separates him from most. D1 coaches definitely need to get to King Street.
Systemic racism in college athletics has recently been a well talked about topic. Many D1 HCs have been put in the fire due to their leadership of young black men but lack of diversity on their staff. Black D1 HCs be bold and hire a diverse staff also... -cont-
Grandma said, “If you leave that plant in that little pot you are going to destroy it. You gotta put it in a bigger pot so the roots spread out and you allow it to grow.” 🤔
Teaching young men and women as they transition into independent adults to seek a bigger pot.
