United Kingdom (UK) is likely less than 1% of Canada’s GDP when considering the balance of trade. Japan is likely less than 1% of Canada’s GDP when considering the balance of trade. Mexico is also less than 1% when accounting for the entire trade balance. Trade of which the US accounts for 83% is roughly 40% of Canada’s GDP. The remaining 60% is domestic consumption. So it is not likely Canada could exist on its own without the US. And with the various separatist inside Canada including the economic powerhouse of Alberta not wanting to be part of Canada, it is not inconceivable that Canada could become the 51st state.
