What I find interesting (sick) is how black women are stereotyped as bad mothers by the larger society, yet people always seek exploit our maternal labor.
No one wants to admit that there's really no foolproof way to prevent single motherhood and the only thing preventing a father from abandoning his children is his goodwill and dedication to his kids.
When men get upset at the sight of pink balloons during a gender reveal it makes me cringe because they’re basically rejecting the child and her mother. It’s so layered and nasty 😭🧍🏾♀️
I have a theory that Gen Z is aging like this because they “skipped” their teen years
They were in full makeup, wigs, and exposed to the internet, and the world before they were 18
Millenials didn’t have any of that
Growing up, we often heard that dark skinned black people weren’t attractive.
Being one myself, it meant a lot seeing someone like Whoopi Goldberg embrace the way she looked, on TV—and rightfully so—despite what the standards of colorism say, Whoopi was gorgeous.
I'm sorry but I can't get over people referring to WOMEN as "birthing bodies" "menstruators", "uterus havers" etc while men are called...men. That's so sick to ME.
“ BBLs have my people in a chockehold “ y’all tweet while actively body shaming and upholding harsh beauty standards for black women . Enough of the fake concern .
This is callous, heartbreaking, and absolutely insane. I actually have tears in my eyes because imagine being a 7 year old black girl hearing this… Wtf
Or at the very least, it affirms their hatred of the feminine. I can’t wrap my mind around how deeply people hate little girls before they are even born.
How do you talk to your partner about hygiene? my partner is soo untidy and doesn’t bath everyday, yet wants sex. I get turned off because he off balances my PH. He doesn’t care about himself at all. I tried so hard to bhekezela but its hard. How do i talk to him without offence?
Supporting DV victims is very difficult. I can see why some folks would rather not involve themselves, but I do think you can support a friend who is going through DV & protect yourself. I have done It.
I feel like a few things happened:
1) texturism *low-key* won
2) some BW who grew their perms out were hoping, that with certain products and techniques, their type 4 hair would behave as if its type 3. (hence the rise in perms, texturizers, etc)
1/2
I’m not sure who came up with the term “ black birthing people / bodies” but It has now seeped into academia. I need people to think critically about the implications of that term.
Although I'm glad that Da baby is getting backlash for his anti-LGBTQ remarks, I wish y'all would've had this much vitriol for him when he was outed for abusing Black Women. Too often, Black Women's abuse at the hands of Black Men is ignored or brushed off as inconsequential.
I really hate how companies market vaginal soaps toward women. Because, in all actuality, cleansing with water, having a balanced diet, and sleeping without underwear can go a long way in terms of vaginal health.
I love seeing BW with their natural hair but I also don’t really care to police them on how they should be doing their hair either tbh. Irl I encourage BW to do what makes them feel best cause at the end of the day alot of us need to unpack how we feel about ourselves .
Our foremothers really suffered. I can’t imagine having to lay under some man for a hot meal and shelter omg, I would’ve wanted to be taken out back and be put out of my misery. 🧍🏾♀️
One of the worst things about the digital age is the possibility of being subjected to surveillance from random people. Imagine minding your business and ending up in a viral video online? 🦧
I've found that the key to having a quick + effective wash day is to keep your hair detangled. My wash day is: 15-20 mins of detailing plus an additional 25 mins of shampoo, treatment, and conditioner. Washing your hair doesn't have to be a chore.
I can never forget Oluwatoyin Salau honestly. I think her tragic death marked a turning point for me because I realised that that ‘community’ was structured to serve its heterosexual male pop. Everyone else is expendable
I feel like BW refusing to “put BM in the system” has less to do with them fearing the police and more to do with them being terrified (and rightfully so) about intra-communal retribution. Had Meg “put Tory in jail” the vitriol would’ve been worse!
Maybe it’s cause I grew up in a
#certain
environment. But this is not surprising to me. Young boys have always been violently misogynistic especially towards Black girls.
I don’t have the words for this, but I feel like BW are the only ones who are lambasted for being “natural-looking” on the internet (and IRL). our beauty is constantly critiqued, especially, when it’s not bolstered by wigs, lashes, etc.
Going to community based events, solo outings, volunteering. Some people use apps, but I’m skeptical about those. You can also take hobby-based classes to connect with others. Most importantly … Don’t let your desire for friendship cloud your judgement.
That breastfeeding lady and the men who engage with her content are absolutely disgusting. Children need to be protected from abusers - even when it’s their mother.
It never dawned on me that women are becoming disillusioned from watching Kdramas to the point where they are flocking to S.Korea in droves in search of love. That’s crazy cause the movies is not real life… 🧎🏾♀️
I know this may sound radical or whatever but I can't wait for the day that women start fighting and beating down their abusers en mass. I'm tired of how women are socialized to be sitting ducks.
S*x trafficking is rampant in the NYC area (and pretty much any major city). a 15 y/o black girl was just found in Staten Island after being trafficked for 6 months.
Spain’s women’s football team announce they will not play another match until Spanish football president Luis Rubiales resigns, which he refuses to do.
Rubiales grabbed team member Jenni Hermoso and planted a non-consensual kiss on her lips at the World Cup final.
Question for Black feminists: how do you stay grounded in sisterhood with all women when non-black women can (and historically have) excluded BW? I’m not trying to be funny; just having a hard time reconciling my politics vs. reality.
As a female tourist who has been travelling solo for 5 years, these are the countries I will NOT recommend to any woman travelling alone. & if you do, please beware that sexual harassment on the streets is very common & accepted as a norm.
1. Morocco
2. Egypt
3. Pakistan
This low-key reinforces the earlier tweets about colorism tho bc let’s say that her raps are childish (they aren't) y'all still give LS women a pass to be mediocre.
