DC closed out 2024 with 53 traffic fatalities. A new 18-year(?) record on the year originally targeted for zero by Vision Zero.
Vision Zero update: In 2024 so far, 47 people have died in traffic crashes. 18 pedestrians, 10 on motorcycles, 2 on bicycles, 9 as drivers, 7 as passengers. The number was 52 for all of 2023, and our goal - as the name vision zero suggests - is zero. We're not close.

.@DDOTDC has issued a Notice of Intent at Rhode Island Ave NE and 15th to install a median and eliminate driver lefts. They’ll also investigate installing a HAWK at the eastern crosswalk (while removing the western one). This is directly in front of the now vacant Walgreens.

DDOT is exploring another RIA HAWK at 15th St NE, and might be looking into it for 17th as well. You can comment on the matter of 15th as part of NOI 24-305-TESD until 1/8/25.
Glad to see @DDOTDC is moving forward on closing this superfluous 15th St segment! This was my ask in response to the recent centerline-hardening NOI. Comments due 1/8. I look forward to conferring with Cmsr-elect Sun on this as well.
