I just exchanged my @QPLNYC card of ten years for a shiny new one and the lady behind the desk noticed my sadness and asked why I was sad? After all, I had a new card. The fact that even a librarian-a job meant to be empathetic- couldn’t see the signs shows issues in our culture.
