I needed 1st to get my worlds invite, didn't think I would because something unfortunate always happens no matter how much I prepare, but things just went my way this time and I'm very grateful for that. Thank you everyone for the kind words of support, see you at worlds<3
@EiMaGiVGC
being completely results-oriented and being obsessed with 1st place is honestly an unhealthy mindset for a game like VGC and I wish more people in the VGC community would understand this
Finished 30th at WCS2023 with a 4-3 record. It's a bit heartbreaking to be so close to advancing but I'm satisfied with how I prepared and played for this tournament for the most part. Despite the problems at this event, Viva La VGC, I'll see you next season. Shoutouts below
Was so close... Undefeated until the finals. I really wanted the back to back 1st place at home but I'll take 2nd. With this I have my worlds invite! And I'm on track for Day2 but it's not over. The series 2 chapter ends for me here, it's been fun, GGs. Some shoutouts in replies~
I ended up 1st in Oceania. Our season was a bit strange, with so few events which all happened in the first quarter of this year, but I'm very glad to have been able to show up and perform each time. I've enjoyed a bit of a break since EUIC. See you all in Yokohama

Worlds this year is just tainted. Worlds is meant to be the final stage for the best players to compete, but many of the best players in Japan and all of Asia will not even qualify because of the tournament structure/uncontrollable factors. Not to mention it's in Yokohama...
clinched the 3rd spot in Oceania players cup. Still in disbelief but I'm happy. Thanks so much
@AgatiGa
for being a goat and working with me, we worked so hard for this. And gotta shoutout
@ShamanVGC
who played 100s of games with me over the weeks he's the best
did terribly this worlds but had an amazing trip thanks to my friends. I'm super motivated to try to do well for Yokohama, my (and Pokemon's) place of birth, I cried from excitement for that announcement. ~4 months off now but viva la vgc, I will not rest, see you next year
in case there was any doubt I'm the creator, here's the team report written in May, I've republicised it because too many people have stolen the team already anyway lol
FYI this team basically solved series 8

Lost to a senior but managed to top cut because my resistance was very good despite the bad luck. I've prepared so much, 1900s multiple times 80gxe, bo3 against best players I know on earth, all the crits and misses I don't want the blood shed to be in vain. 1st and I go worlds
Ended up 7-2 at EUIC. Was 7-1 and lost the last round, it was a difficult team for me and he played perfect. But I'm really happy to get to play tomorrow despite having low confidence for this format/team, and I might be the first Australian to ever make D2 at EUIC. Cya tomorrow!
My resistance was looking good but I lost the last round. Finishing EUIC at 10-4, would've liked to go a little farther but still a result to be proud of. On the upside, with that I should be locked for Day 2 worlds!
The Japan Nats online final stage is a mess
-no option to stop playing. You are forced into the next game
-keep getting the same opponents
-can't see your own rating/ranking
Was so close. After getting crit in a sudden death that I had won otherwise, managed to win 5 straight after starting 1-2 until falling to
@gozira2004
. Gotta thank
@komi7toYK
for all the support, this was a joint effort and despite the misfortune I'm very happy with our play
My unpopular opinion: this is the fairest opportunity APAC players have had to earn a TA since like 2014
People like those in China with no locals/events actually have a chance to even play now. If you think you deserve a TA just get good and finish top 128 imo
Finished 10-5. Maybe I’ll always just be a 10-4 kind of player but I’m gonna keep getting back up. With this I’ve got worlds invite so see you in Hawaii
Whilst I didn't win, I think I'll write a teambuilding thought process article (like I did for my+
@is26yk
Blastoise/Zacian team in Series 8) after my holiday in Japan. Building for a new format is a specific skill which is difficult and I think I have some insights to offer.
a tournament at a good time for apac players, barely any of us sign up and it's mostly NA players. Yeah I wonder why nobody bothers to cater for our timezone lol
Leaving Columbus soon. I am proud of my finish, I consider it my best ever result since I started playing and I'm gonna aim to do even better at worlds, already looking forward to it. Thanks everyone for the overwhelming support it means so much to me
Byes are such an incredible deal in double elim, just for "happening" to finish in a certain seed you get to bypass potentially another two rounds in losers bracket, this is miles worse than the resistance system in Swiss
The team is from
@hirosipoke
, even though I didn't win I think it was the best team in the tournament. Thank you for answering all my matchup questions too!
@ImRahxen
@EiMaGiVGC
for all the top cut prep. And
@kom17toY
for strategising all throughout moon series. I'm so grateful!
1-1 to 6-1 to 6-2 at Perth Regional. 8 rounds X-1 cut is just too brutal :/
Really wanted to cut but still not bad.
That’s it for RegF, still don’t understand this format lol
You probably don't care but this is the most devastated I've been. With many no shows, we should've only played 6 rounds, but it wasn't changed and then I got so unlucky final game after coming back 1-1 to 5-1 from play rough miss in round 2 then bubbling 9th
The most important part of a team report is HOW the team came to be, the inspiration for it, the reasoning behind its choices etc, which is very often omitted from Western reports
I'm proud of my student Takumi, I know he really wanted that win and is probably disappointed but he's 9 years old and he did great. Making finals at 2 internats this year is fantastic, it's only up from here
About to board my 17 hour direct flight to Perth. Had a great time at EUIC, thanks friends. Wish there was more time to hang out, it always goes so fast. My 10th Perth regional next weekend, let’s see what happens.
Finished Top 8 at Sydney Regional - was a really close match and I would've liked to go a little further but I'm content with this result, +100 puts me at 420CP 2nd in OCE I believe. Online comp next week and then EUIC where it's likely we'll get fissured, go 6-3 and miss CP😅
Had so much fun recording this with Graham, got to showcase the team Agati and I used in players cup as well as a bit of how I think about the game, defs give it a watch
Sounds pessimistic but it's been 10+ years and vgc hasn't made it so I don't see this ever happening
It comes down to playerbase. If you don't play vgc it's a boring af game to watch. LoL is successful because it has easy entry barrier, thus more players, thus more viewers
If you were given complete control over VGC rules, planning, and marketing (with some ability to alter aspects of the game, like critical hit chance or accuracy), do you think that you could make Pokémon a major eSport? Why or why not?
can't quite wrap my head around the fact that this will happen but you know someone is a real one when they're willing to fly across the earth to come and see you. Can't wait bro
I just booked a flight to Perth meeting up with
@vivalavlade
after 4 years of not seeing each other, but talking almost on a daily basis. I am having tears of joy just thinking about the trip. It’s surreal to me what kind of friendships Pokémon can create.
It's been a problem for so long and it's caused so much unnecessary trouble - there needs to be proper timer rules for tourney games played on showdown
I don't think it should be negotiable if one person wants timer on
Don't get me wrong I'm all for inclusivity but I think it's a myth. You can only do so much to retain players. You're in or you're out, you either get good or just end up quitting, and I don't think any amount of persuasion can change that
Source: competed in games for 12 years
Not sure how known this is
If you're planning to play the INC on 2 games, there is a bug where you will not be able to find opponent if battle box is locked on both games. You must finish your games on one game, then you can lock on the other.
That's why we can play 45 in 1 day
I actually can't believe this, the skirmishes in SEA and hanging out with everyone there are some of the best memories I have of participating in this circuit, I'm really sorry to see this
It's a goodbye from all of us in the SEA TPCi Professors.
I appreciate the "personalized" letter instead of just copy-pasted corparate mass-send letter.
It's pretty dumb you get 50cp for going 7-2 (and not make the next stage of the tourney), especially when you can get 100cp for going 5-4 in Berlin last year
It's here. The team from
@kom17toY
I used all season since January to get 800+CP including top 16 at NAIC. It's in Japanese but please feel free to ask me if you want any parts translated.

5-1, I CUT
The biggest thank you to
@LCQ_poke
, I couldn't have done it without him. He's an amazing team builder and player, you all should give him a follow.
My unpopular opinion: this is the fairest opportunity APAC players have had to earn a TA since like 2014
People like those in China with no locals/events actually have a chance to even play now. If you think you deserve a TA just get good and finish top 128 imo
This quarter for APAC has been ridiculous.
We only have 2 majors, 1 in the zone: MEO and LAIC. There was NO shot at getting a deserving TA even if you won MEO without access to local PC/MSS.
Or unless you are able to go AC, Knoxville and Portland which are in the USA, not APAC
This is ridiculous, the
#1
seed in Oceania is a no show so the
#128
seed will get a free pass to round 2 for finishing lower than 1500. Can't say I'm surprised given the organising track record but come on...
None of this "wow I didn't even prepare and I won xD". You won't get any extra credit from me at least.
It's like taking an exam. The school doesn't care about how much preparation you've done, only the mark you got.
Intent to live somewhere does not mean you reside there. I'm sorry but Suica should have moved to AU first. If he did this then there would be no problems. I feel bad for him but he knows what happened to YT and took the risk anyway.
Even my friends who don't even play games in Taiwan know who Pi Wu is now. They really celebrate anyone that does well in representing them, they are proud of their people. The same was with Gamerbee when he made a splash and got 5th at EVO out of nowhere
Funny because people asked me this too. Garchomp was great for me and I never missed Great Tusk as I had clear, defined reasons for selecting Garchomp instead. Maybe Great Tusk is a better pokemon overall but not always the right ground choice for a team
A lot of people asking me why I used Garchomp over Great Tusk on my Natal regional team. This really confuses me.
Chomp has better typing, ability, bulk distribution and speed, while having the same base attack as Tusk…
It's not OK to take 1 minute to make your move every turn
"My connection is unstable" is not an excuse, it's your responsibility to be playing on a stable connection
Do you think companies give an f when your connection cuts out during one of their tests or interviews?
This is not the only instance of disrespect that's been pointed out in world cup. Sure English speakers won't understand this case but it's quite disappointing to see
I'm back home finally. If you know me you know I'm not satisfied with my result, 4-3 after starting 0-3, but I'll take that, it was my only first worlds after all.
