It's incredible to reflect that the @StanfordSpezi ecosystem was just an idea that @DrAalami, @PSchmiedmayer, and I sketched out on a whiteboard a little over two years ago, aiming to make digital health innovation more standards-based, accessible, and teachable. Today, our ambitious endeavor thrives thanks to a core team of 30+ talented researchers, clinicians, designers, and developers at @Stanford, supported by a vibrant international community and adopted by leading institutions and companies worldwide to build their most promising solutions for healthcare. Through our courses and workshops, we've also been fortunate enough to guide hundreds of budding innovators in bringing their own ideas to life. I'm deeply grateful for all that @StanfordBDHG and the broader community has achieved this year, and excited to see what everyone builds in 2025! Wish you all a happy and healthy new year! 🎆
2024 was a transformative year for us at Stanford Biodesign Digital Health! Here are the highlights: 🚀 Technical Innovation - Expanded the open-source @StanfordSpezi ecosystem to 24+ modules, delivering cutting-edge digital health functionality including on-device and fog node #LLM execution with RAG and function calling, advanced Bluetooth device support, multi-platform capabilities, and FHIR API/EHR integration. - Released the Spezi Data Pipeline, a comprehensive suite of tools designed to facilitate the management, analysis, and visualization of healthcare data currently in use by multiple research studies. - Successfully translated Spezi to Android, while keeping it aligned with our iOS ecosystem, culminating in our first major cross-platform clinical trial application launched simultaneously on both. 🏆 Research & Translation - Launched PAWS, a pioneering study investigating the use of consumer wearables for detecting irregular heart rhythms in children. - Launched ENGAGE-HF, a multi-center clinical trial sponsored by the American Heart Association helping patients with heart failure optimize their treatment at home using mobile apps and connected medical devices. - Designed and built a novel, patent-pending clinical decision support system for automated management of chronic conditions through an innovative fusion of knowledge graphs, #HL7 #FHIR, CQL, and #LLMs. - Pioneered spatial computing projects with the @Apple Vision Pro for improving accessibility and augmenting surgeons' capabilities in the OR. - Advanced QDG, the 1st comprehensive remote monitoring system for Parkinson's which achieved FDA Breakthrough Designation and multiple peer-reviewed publications. 🌍 Education & Knowledge Sharing - Taught our flagship courses at Stanford, CS342 Building for Digital Health in the Winter and BIOE273 Biodesign for Digital Health in the Fall. - Expanded our international reach through workshops at @ChariteBerlin and the Technical University of Munich. - Showcased our innovations across @Stanford as well as at the @Apple Health Research Summit and at @Meta, and via features on the @Google People of AI, MaML, and @npjDigitalMed podcasts. None of this would have been possible without our exceptional leadership @DrAalami, Michelle de Haaff, @vishnuravi, @PSchmiedmayer, @AZahedivash, and our talented team, including @andreas_bauer_, Arkadiusz Bachorski, @vickybikia, Eldi Cano, @PBHDK, Warren Hiemstra, Sonya Jin, Thomas Kaar, Palle Klewitz, Paul Kraft, Caitlin Kunchur, Audrey Lin, Ricky Mutschlechner, @MadlenerNikolai, Meghana Nerurkar, Leon Nissen, Adrit Rao, Nick Riedman, Shriya Reddy, Kilian Schneider, @felixmschlegel, & @PhilippZagar. We are especially grateful for the support of @joshatstanford, Gordon Saul, Carolyn Heller, and our wonderful Stanford Mussallem Center for Biodesign (@SUBiodesign) community. Looking ahead to an amazing 2025! Join us at 🚀

I made one of the first healthcare apps for a smartwatch using @Pebble. Excited to see @Pebble come back, as an open-source project! @ericmigi
Wrote some code to get critical patient results directly from the lab to @Pebble #smartwatches
