Historians in 2050 will be writing their entire PhD thesis on specific days of 2020.

Ah yeah football fields are famous for only being ~65 years and missing an end zone.
Assuming you’re a Michigan fan, be better please and don’t spread dumbass lies - it reflects poorly on the rest of us.

Me as a first time founder: “Better be careful about sharing this new idea to potentially competitive companies”
Me now: “Hey fellow founder in similar space, here is everything about my new idea, please tell me what the dumb parts are”
My kids getting hit by a vehicle is my biggest fear as a parent.
The stupid fucking non-work pickup trucks that are like 5+ feet hood height need to be banned. Driver probably didn't even see the kid.
The Boulder Police Department is investigating a fatal car crash after a vehicle struck a child who later died at the hospital yesterday.
At approximately 5:20 p.m. on Monday, May 13, officers were called to an apartment complex in the 700 block of 29th Street for a report of a
This demo is insane.
A student shares their iPad screen with the new ChatGPT + GPT-4o, and the AI speaks with them and helps them learn in *realtime*.
Imagine giving this to every student in the world.
The future is so, so bright.
I'm surprised there aren't more VC firms dedicated to computer vision (in contrast to how many crypto firms there are for example).
Computer vision is the most promising/cheap/ accessible way to make the real world accessible for computing.
@edzitron
“these women would get billionaire sperm for free, or maybe elon can give $50k to each and cover the kids schooling”
as someone who has 4 kids this is maybe the most insane part of the post
Had a great time hosting
@AndreElijah
on Episode 3 of the The LightTwist Show ! Here's some highlights, starting with the new intro where I almost burned
@philnelson
. Do OSHA violations count in virtual spaces???
Excited to vote for
@ewarren
today!
She’s the most promising candidate to actually bring about improvements given her track record and she’ll crush Trump.
Here's a new LightTwist demo - a teaser for the OpenCV AI Gameshow (coming soon)!
We're using a cloud based version of LightTwist for the show that uses Unreal Engine for higher end graphics and can stream in realtime.

Hey friends, here's LightTwist demo

!
What if you could host a live event, interview podcast, or comedy show in an interactive 3D studio, all from your home on a Mac?
No green screen or special equipment needed!
It turns out that it's really difficult to be fiscally responsible and not buy the Apple Vision Pro when you've worked in spatial computing / computer vision for 10+ years and half of your Twitter feed is people you actually trust saying it's great 😭
Someone should do a heist movie where badasses from India, Egypt, Greece, Nigeria, China, etc assemble a crew and steal back all of the treasures and historical relics at the British Museum.
Some experimentation by the LightTwist team - captured on an iPhone without a green screen, rendered in Unreal Engine.
Still need a lot of work on lighting especially but fun to be able to play around!

The cathedrals we build today are much more impressive - they just happen to be built in silicon for the benefit of many rather than for the glorification of a few.
My father-in-law is a builder. He is insanely gifted. We were in a cathedral together years ago and I asked him what it would cost to build it today. I will never forget his answer…
“We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.”
I've got a big work/life announcement today - I'm no longer in an operational role at Occipital.
It's been an amazing adventure since starting this company with
@jrpowers
in 2008. Now it's on to figure out what's next.
@tacolamp
Wow, this is pretty crazy, a really interesting data point too.
It also makes me think about the original photograph - was the afghan woman ever compensated for what is one of the most iconic photos of all time?
Every once in a while I remember how I had glasses from 1991 through 2019 and then I paid $2000 and had a laser sculpt each eye for 1 minute and now have 20/20 or better vision for the last 5 years.
LASIK is the most cyberpunk of medical procedures.
On top of this, if you do this for say ~5-10 years you should get offered a US citizenship.
We should also staple a green card to every STEM PhD granted at the top ~50 universities in the USA.
The USA is wasting a huge talent and wealth opportunity.
Excited to share some LightTwist news!
One of our early customers, Smartest Studio, built an interactive gameshow powered by LightTwist and using just an iPhone and a browser.
We asked them to shoot a quick video about how they're using LightTwist and here it is!
Realizing as I walk around downtown Boulder that without my family with me as Dr. Ellie Sattler, Dennis Nedry, and a dinosaur, my Dr. Ian Malcolm costume makes me look like a sketchy/creepy guy 😭.
Another LightTwist demo video, from Mars this time!
We've been hard at work making a fully automated version of the iOS app from capture to final render on the server using

When RedLaser (barcode scanning/price comparison app) was at the top of the App Store with millions of users people would say “I bet you must have some crazy server setup!” but I had to sheepishly admit we only had 2 servers, one of which was just in case the first went down.
If you're not doing over a million dollars in ARR for your SaaS app, you almost certainly don't need more than a single server. Chasing a 99.99% uptime in those early days by prematurely optimizing your resilience is a vast of effort that could have fueled features and bug fixes.

There’s one weird trick to surviving unpaid internships- it’s called having wealthy parents. Just a simple trick that works not only for unpaid internships but in almost every situation!
Boston Dynamics revealed the new fully electric Atlas this morning. The previous hydraulic version was retired yesterday. They have chosen increased range of movement over strictly mirroring the human form. Note the hand has three fingers. I like that the head resembles a mirror.
This is outstanding 😂.
Colorado has some of the best journalists in the country - informative, funny, and seem like genuinely good people.

Denver's most popular parks (2022):
Red Rocks - 9,575 avg daily visits
City Park - 2,746 avg daily visits
Denver's least popular park:
The Bluffs - 6 avg daily visits
Here's why The Bluffs might be the perfect park for you.
Things my 3 year old (almost 4!) has said in the past week:
“It’s ok you can be a better parent tomorrow.”
“Can you please stop talking about birds?”
“I don’t like birds I only like coyotes.”
“That fucking fucking piece of tape!”
Hey friends, figured I'd post a quick new LightTwist demo from my "office"!
Captured in realtime using the LightTwist macOS app, using the iPhone 13 Pro as a camera.
Can be used for recorded videos or Zoom/Meet/etc.
YouTube link for higher quality:
I’d like to take a moment and thank the trans community for making this happen.
Here is what I would like:
- Embedded perfect memory
- Co-brain processor + neural interface
- Ability to plug in more cameras
- indestructible spine
- Replace stupid injured big toe
- Wings???
Founder tip:
Find yourself a group of peers who you can respond honestly to when they ask “how are you doing?”
And be that person for them too.
It’s made a huge difference for me.
Offer: 3 boys aged 6,7, and 9 available for manual labor from ~9-5 during the summer.
I will pay *you* $500 a week.
(this is much much cheaper than summer camps somehow)
It’s been a challenging/crazy/fun time since I announced leaving Occipital.
I'm excited that I've finally figured out what I'm doing next!
I wrote a recap in a new newsletter about life, startups, and ideas - read/subscribe if interested!
Have come to the realization that if I get enough sleep, go for a run in the morning, hug/play with my kids and laugh with my wife there’s a 90% chance I’ll be happy that day. Drinking great coffee bumps it up to 98%.
Finally got my iPhone 12 Pro, and so I upgraded my immersive memory capture prototype to support LiDAR!
Here's a a capture with my son and daughter that I'm "re-living" in AR.
Teasing this out under the radar on a Friday since it's very rough still :).
Very excited to announce that
@opencvweekly
will be using LightTwist for it's weekly show!
Here's a teaser that Satya (
@LearnOpenCV
),
@philnelson
and I recorded from San Diego, SF, and NYC
We built a macOS app at LightTwist that had a nice segmentation algo + let you use Unity for Zoom/Meet/Twitch/etc.
Ended up pivoting to a cloud based app.
Kinda wonder if we should just open source it / ship it on the App Store though 🤔.
One benefit of having kids is you never spend any emotional energy wondering what the meaning of life is.
It’s interesting as an intellectual concept but emotionally you’re all set.
I wanted to give a shoutout to the
@boulderpolice
, especially Officer Meehan and Detective Xu, who have been outstanding in helping my family deal with death threats we received.
Thank you for all your help!
(family is safe!)
With the Trump presidency it feels like that part of the movie where you think the bad guy is dead and everybody is laughing/cheering but then he pops back up one last time before finally being destroyed for good.
Hi friends! I've been working on a fun little iOS app idea to capture immersive memories.
Here's a moment I captured with my son!
Look around in 360 with the YouTube native app/VR HMD
Using little planet mode for Twitter since there's no 360 vid support
I've discovered as a repeat founder that knowing *intellectually* that early stage startups are a roller coaster of emotions is a lot different than actually *riding* the roller coaster again.
Quick survey - raise your hand if you’re a millennial and have had to tell your boomer parents to take this COVID crisis seriously and not go out? I’ll go first 🤚🏽
The
@luxonis
team is launching an awesome new spatial AI camera tomorrow! Integrated depth sensing, color camera, and neural network compute. All in a tiny, affordable package.
Going to get a few myself as Christmas gifts for computer vision friends :).
It's been pretty fun getting to code in longer time chunks. Haven't done that since early days at Occipital where we'd code for 12 hour stretches sometimes (ah to be 23 again with near infinite energy!)
Currently working on prototyping a fun idea involving capturing memories.
My sister died in a suicide last year from overdosing on Wellbutrin (buproprion).
When you overdose it attacks both the brain (seizures) and heart which makes it especially deadly.
There are no anti-dotes at least yet.
@pmarca
Wellbutrin is way worse than Adderall imo. It should be taken off the market.
Every time that drug has come up in conversation, someone at the table has a suicide or near suicide story.
@michiganmogul
The dumbest thing on this, which is saying something given the stupidity of everything else on here, is that they wouldn't want Will Johnson to play at Ohio State
