Just a note for VT sports fans. You can enjoy VT Men’s Hoops and Coach Mike Young without taking shots at Coach Fuente and the football program. I get it, believe me I do! The football program needs to improve in many aspects. But take this time to enjoy what’s occurring in 🏀.

Remember back when I signed with VT. Turned down several “big time”programs. Back then nobody knew about VT. People said I was wrong. But I knew. Decades later I own 2 business, coaching, speaking engagements, podcasts, have a family and respected throughout VA.

I’m extremely proud of these players! I’ve been on some VT teams that handled adversity and I know how hard is to stay together. But we did and this team is as well. They can’t exhale and can’t become complacent. However this team is showing some heart and resiliency! #Hokies.

Last time I was at the Military Bowl, the weather was the same and the outcome was even worse. First losing season in 20 plus years. Said I was done coming to games for a while. Didn’t feel there was a real vision for the program. However, I’m back for the 3rd time. Weather is.

My advice. enjoy the game tonight. Enjoy supporting the new players that emerge. Enjoy seeing the tradition and prime time matchup between two great programs! Stop trying to be Coach Fuente. Hopefully you get to enjoy a W tonight. Regardless it’s just 1 game.

As I get older I appreciate Coach Frank Beamer more and more. He wasn’t perfect but none of us are. He had issues occur within his program but he dealt with the issues as best he could. I’m sure he could’ve looked the other way but He wanted to run a clean program.

The BC loss was a tough one and the Duke loss was embarrassing. But some of the previous VT teams ( including teams I was on) had similar bad losses. But those loses led to strong finishes. Could this be another season in which this happens? Hope so. Adversity reveals character.

Funny thing is players like Greg Stroman are rarely celebrated by many VT fans when they commit. I get it. we need and want 5 Stars. But don’t forget some of the best players in VT history were often underrated overlooked by coaches and recruiting services. #Hokies.

Reason why I’m optimistic about VT moving forward is because the Coastal is suspect. At one time we owned it… get the players and culture right in the Burg and we’re good. Not minimizing the challenge of doing so but it’s not insurmountable.

Robinson at punt returner was a great change. He will break one soon. Farley has been a dawg this season. Playing at a very high level. Outside of Druckenmiller, VT seems to play better with a dual threat QB. Deablo has come on strong in recent weeks.
