The @guardian fails to challenge the hegemony of molecular commercial breeding. Wild relatives and traditional varieties contain the genes these companies use to create new cultivars over which they then claim ownership of. I call that intellectual theft
@vegoutwithadam Not even interesting in my books. There are so many great tomatoes to grow (and easily save the seeds from) that would more than likely out-taste these gene-tweaked wonders. We need more seed detectives and fewer lab technicians.

Interesting but sweetness alone a great tomato does not make. What of the balance of acidity, the nutrient density of and will it be free to other breeders to use to improve local varieties. Scientists identify tomato genes to tweak for sweeter fruit

Busy afternoon picking beans for the freezer. This late cropper is an Austrian variety called kirschenbohne (cherry bean) that I was given by a breeder in Styria. Stringless, yummy and the glorious seeds are good in a casserole too

When will we ever learn. Another compelling reason to eat organic fruit and veg and, whenever possible grow as much of your own food as time and passion permit
