Once we got to Tokyo, we took the Marunouchi Line to the Higashikoenji station, and once there started asking for directions to Renkoji. No one seemed to know where it was.

Next step, I started calling friends in Tokyo. "Hi, where's Renkoji temple? How do I get there?" was always followed by a long pause, and the answer was "What's that?"

With my Google Map for directions, we got to the general area, and asked passers by if we were anywhere near the temple. Always to be met with blank looks and apologetic bows. Finally one passerby told us that there was a temple nearby, maybe they could help us find this place.

16 years ago, on this day, we moved to Tsuruoka, Japan. By 6pm, the streets were empty, all was quiet, nothing moved, not even a mouse. From 32°C temp in Singy to 3° in a day. And snow everywhere. A totally new Language and culture.

Her sarees were always bought from one particular Chettiyar from Chinnalamatti. She wrote to him about colours she had in mind and that her granddaughter was buying this for her. She wore it with so much pride and every one knew it was her granddaughter's gift to her.

Did I forget to mention that they also had 3 huge thermos flasks of Chai? Adrak, elaichi and plain kadak Chai! So I just had to look for a chaiwala and uncle would pour me Chai. I was fed and stuffed to the gills all the way to Ahmedabad. Swedes should travel with gujju families.
