Rescue Centre patient Swimmy Fallon earned his reputation as "not so swimmy" as he didn't seem to like water that much at all. During swims he'd sit in his tub, waiting for it to be over. Good news, he's slowly progressing and is learning to seal.

It's Katmai's 10th
#rescueversary
! Katmai was found near Homer, Alaska in 2012 at just a few months old, and nursed back to health at the Alaska Sea Life Center. Now she's all grown up to be the Aquarium's sea otter queen! Wish her a happy 10 years if you see her today

One silver lining of our closure last week is that some of our animals and their dedicated care staff are getting extra time to explore our galleries together (thanks to our friends at Shedd for sharing the idea.)💙🐧
This has got to be the seal-iest thing you've ever seen! This is Jerry. Jerry likes his "spa-time". Most days, he chooses his turtle pool over big pools.
Please don't interrupt Jerry. Happy Friday!

Everyone stay calm while we introduce you to our newest
@marinemammalrescue
patient, Joey. He was discovered orphaned, hypothermic and hypoglycaemic near Kyuquot. He was flown into Vancouver Friday morning and is now stabilizing, resting and feeding well under 24/7 care.
Hardy rescue-versary: a thread.
We’ve rounded up some adorable highlights to mark the occasion he arrived at the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre and stole all of our hearts in 2017.
Have you ever seen a duck wearing boots? Meet Fiver, a 10-year-old ringed teal who lives in our Amazon Gallery. He has some sores on the bottom of his feet and these neoprene booties allow him to have a soft surface to stand on so his feet can heal. (1/3)
Happy Rescueversary Kunik! Kunik was near Homer, Alaska in March 2016 and deemed non-releasable by US FWS. She was rehabilitated at Alaska Sealife Center alongside Mak, who was rescued a month prior, and the two came to the aquarium together in November of 2016.

Good morning
@chrissyteigen
! We’ve named our newest rescue centre pup patient “Fishy Teigen” in your honour.
Please don’t hate us, it is meant to be a tribute (however poorly executed).
Happy birthday to the superstar sea otter, Joey! Two years ago, baby JoJo wiggled into our hearts when he was rescued near Kyuquot! He's done a lot of growing up in the past two years, but he's still got a lot to say — you might still hear him vocalizing if you come by to visit!
Happy rescueversary to sea otter Rialto!
Rialto was rescued in 2016 from Olympia National Park in Washington by
@SeattleAquarium
, and transferred to the Vancouver Aquarium later that year. He's become one of the most social otters at the Aquarium - stop by and say hi!
#vanaqua
It's Tazlina's 5th rescueversary! Taz was found off the coast of Alaska at just a day old. She was rehabilitated by Alaksa SeaLife Center and deemed non-releasable by US Fish and Wildlife Service before being transferred to the Aquarium in 2019. Happy rescueversary Taz!
#vanaqua
It's Katmai's birthday! The queen is 11 years old today, so of course we had to throw a party to celebrate — and no Katmai party would be complete without shrimp for a special treat!
#vanaqua
Today is Endangered Species Day! Sea otters were once extirpated in Canada and have since been reintroduced. They remain endangered, but population numbers continue to improve, and are considered a great success story in ocean conservation.
It's Hardy's six-year rescueversary! Rescued near Port Hardy, BC in 2017, he has become one of the most playful and active sea otters at the Vancouver Aquarium — and one of the blondest!
#vanaqua
It's finally
#SeaOtterAwarenessWeek
! It's been a little while since we did a video like this, and a few new rescued otters have joined us at the aquarium since then — so whether you're here for the first time or just need a refresher, it's time to Meet the Otters.
Meet Dwayne 'the Rockfish' Johnson! A tiny premature pup who made an early arrival at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre after being discovered struggling and alone. Dwayne is now recovering, receiving regular fluids and nutrition, and showing signs of improvement

It's Katmai's 11th rescueversary! She was rescued near Homer, Alaska in 2012 and came to the Vancouver Aquarium in 2013. And no Katmai party would be complete without a mussel shell-ebration!

It's
#WorldOtterDay
! We had a little party to celebrate, including some sea urchin treats! Protecting sea otters is important due to their status as a keystone species — by regulating sea urchin populations, they help ensure that kelp forest ecosystems can thrive.

Our newest patient is a female northern sea otter pup found alone near Tofino and transferred to our Rescue Centre with the help of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). She is receiving 24-hour care from our team of staff and volunteers. 🦦
