RT @Joeynoble: Today was spent amongst the trees. We set off on a mission to find treebeard, and found him we did! What a pleasure it was…

People who consider themselves experts should share their knowledge instead of scoffing at the "ignorant" who may commit an error. Some teach, some learn, and some just like to throw grenades over the wall. Where is the 6 part thread on the history of plate armour? Where is the informed discussion of how historical periods are subject to different interpretations. Where is the nuance? I have my little piece of the truth and I'm going to bludgeon you with it. Also, history is written by the winners. And when people over-identify with the winners they enter an echo chamber that I shall not share. This is my message in a bottle to the algo.

I was going to let this lie, and quit posting commentary, but at least I want to clarify my position. The argument about spiritual development was clever and made me think. Whether or not the dominance of the Church made everyone 'spiritual' is at issue. I would argue no, that the dominance of a particular religion does not automatically make everyone happier and less miserable. Religious programming made everyone more satisfied with their lot in life, and it also made it possible to face a bleak and wretched existence and death with more confidence. That's how the martyrs faced their deaths, with faith that they were seconds away from God's embrace. The Church held society together and allowed civilization to grow, but it was not all 'spiritual', in fact maybe not spiritual at all. So now you can flame me over religion. Have a nice day.

@The_DrunkDragon @starsandstripes God bless you. I never saw conflict, for that I am most grateful. But Uncle had me for 4 years and he chose to let me drink beer.
