Like I've often said, video game rights holders are the (nearly) absolute monarchs of their games, wielding the right to destroy any communities around them at will. But they usually don't! I'm super disappointed that Nintendo is doing this. I really hope they reconsider.

I qualified out of pools & into the top 24 in SFV tomorrow at @FrostyFaustings!!!. This is already my best placing since 2009, the last time I got top 8 at a big event. Back then we just had big single brackets, so, at almost 40, this is very my first time getting out of pools 😭

Yes, video game rights holders have typically waited for "organic" aka third party labor to develop the community & industry infrastructure required for a game's viability for esports before swooping in & converting those external efforts into first party unearned windfall gains.
Riot has announced that the start of Valorant esports will begin with third party hosted tournaments and events. as it should be. Valorant esports needs to start organically. but i fully expect a franchised Valorant league mirroring the LoL esports ecosystem by the start of 2022.

Personally I think this is cool. A bunch of characters can do 2-touch kills with max resources in this game & tbh in most Street Fighter games, and most of them do it boringly. Blanka does it with a bunch of tech that took a while to flesh out & that looks cool too. Cool with me.
