European academics make up 52.5% of international academic staff in the UK, but their numbers fell by 0.5% from 2021–22 to 2022–23. Turkey is the exception among the top ten European countries, with a 16.3% increase over the past year and a 79.5% rise in the last five years.
The graph below shows a continued decline in Turkish academics in the US from 2014/15 to 2020/21, followed by a slight recovery in 2022/23. Meanwhile, the number of Turkish academics in the UK has steadily increased.
