I hate zesty british Spot from the 90’s show. I’m happy we got the version we did in the movie. Even though a majority of his previous designs have features, Spot having a face is so wrong looking to me. It just doesn’t fit his character!

Something fun I noticed: Spot is most likely left-handed! As Johnathon he wears his watch on his right hand, and more often than not he uses his left hand first when doing things. (I doubt the animators put any actual thought into this, but hey, it’s fun to speculate.)

I dislike when people imply Spot can’t/doesn’t need to eat. He eats in the movie! + the trash in his flat. Also, why would he spend money on food if he didn’t need it? Dude is broke. In the comics it’s stated he still has internal organs, and I think that applies to movie Spot.

Might as well state the obvious: no, Spot is not mad over being hit with a bagel. The whole reason for Spot bringing that up was his desperate attempt to get Miles to acknowledge him and understand what Spot is truly frustrated about. Y’know, the whole being deformed thing?

Due to Spot’s obvious lack of a face I noticed that he uses hand gestures a lot as he talks. Gesticulating and utilizing body language to help portray his emotions. Sometimes he even moves his head as if to emulate rolling his eyes! Heres some examples :)

This has to be one of my favorite scenes. It beautifully shows off how Spot and Miles are both intertwined as anomalous individuals. Created by each other. They are one and the same. Isolated, looking for respect, yet put against each other because of unfortunate circumstances.

Doing my daily rewatching of his scenes. Just noticed his hands shake here! Most minor detail ever but I thought I’d share. Also I love the music track here (Spot Holes 1) I like how it sounds peaceful at first with the harp, but as it progresses it sounds more eerie and uncanny!

Some fun details about spot in the ATSV screenplay. Firstly, he chuckled because he thinks the legos are cute! Secondly, the frowny face on the ‘deceased’ label is specified! How silly. I like to imagine in some way he probably cared about the dimensional spiders.

Spot is expressive with his anger. Out of all the characters he is quite forward about how he feels. While not completely in depth, he describes why he was hurt by Miles’ actions. Spot wanted to talk; Miles wanted to end the fight. Though that gets flipped around in Mumbattan.

I often see people (including myself) mention how they like the way Abyss shifts colors, but so does Spot! You can subtly see the white on his body move like dripping paint. Theres so many little details about him you miss if you don’t look closely :)

No one acknowledges this line from Spot enough. It shows at this point in the movie Spot is detached from who he once was as Johnathon Ohnn. He has fully taken on the persona of ‘The Spot’. He creates this extravagant identity as a villain to finally be taken seriously by people!

I like how as Abyss his voice becomes calm. More straightforward and cold. He doesn’t banter like he did at the start. He’s done talking with Miles. Abyss is completely set on getting what he wants because he knows he can achieve it even if it’s hurtful. Sunk-cost fallacy!

I like how Abyss interferes with electricity. When he enters back into 1610 you see the lights on nearby buildings flicker, and when he lands in the ruins of the super collider you can see it briefly light up! The way Abyss’ powers work is such an enigma.

In Gwen’s intro there is a few seconds where you can see (presumably Spot) go and retrieve the dead Earth-42 spider! I assume Alchemax put a tracker on it. This is why later you see it pinned in his apartment. I think he did care about the spiders! As just research, or as pets :)

I like how they cover Spot with texts to not only visually show how distracted Miles is, but also how he sees Spot more as a nuisance. Miles has been through this routine with other ‘villains’ before. He’s brushing him off because he knows Spot (currently) isn’t much of a threat.

Aghh this is such a good scene! I love his petty remarks! The way he is fully tunnel visioned on his goal, not listening to reasoning at all. It really shows off the progression of his character. He parallels Miles in such an interesting ways. Both started from the bottom.

Spots proportions are quite odd. So lanky! I want to mention that even though he looks relatively humanoid, when he starts moving like this you realize how deformed he actually is. Having him crawl through the portals here really accentuates what he’s trying to say about himself.

The lighting on him in this scene is so crisp! It really pushes him as the focus. The scene feels empty and pensive, but not necessarily in a negative way. The lack of music and the deep purple hues help create that kinda moody atmosphere.
I adore truly everything about Spot.

When Spots portals are left open without him closing them, it seems to gradually degrade objects! I find that interesting. Just look at the large chunks taken out of things! Theres so much his powers can do. So many cool ways he can utilize them

I find it interesting that he kept the awards from Alchemax, as well as the photo of himself and Liv. He’s angry about what happened to him, but the fact that he kept these shows that they clearly meant something to him. Maybe it just reminds him of when things were better.
