This also happened to me. A staffer tried not once but twice to cut off my interview with a voter who said they thought Biden should step down. They then ushered me and the voter inside because “the Vp is almost here” but the VP did not show up for another 30 minutes.
Pres. Biden made an appearance at Lindo Michoacan on Desert Inn Rd with AG Aaron Ford this afternoon ahead of his scheduled remarks at the UnidosUS conference this afternoon.
Some news of the personal kind — Last Monday was my last day with the RJ, and the end of my time in journalism (for now). The past two years have been incredibly challenging, but I’m proud of how much I’ve grown and the work I did.
It’s a full circle moment—first ever internship (with
@TheNVIndy
in 2019) to my first reporting job (w/
@reviewjournal
). Happy first day of the NV Legislature!
You know what they say—Home Means Nevada.
In some ✨professional news✨, I'm so excited to share that I'm back in the Silver State covering state government & politics for the
@reviewjournal
from Reno!! Please drop your story ideas and tips to tavery @ reviewjournal dot com 📩
NV Sen. Majority Leader
@Nicole4Nevada
told me Wednesday that she's planning on introducing a bill this upcoming leg. session that would codify former Gov. Sisolak's EO that protects out-of-state abortion patients and those providing them with care.
I said I’d have more news later, so here I am. I’m so excited to share that I’ve started as the Manager of Political Affairs at
@lvchamber
! I’m so excited to work with
@MBSewald
,
@pmoradkhan
and the rest of the government affairs team to better my home state!
I forget sometimes that not everyone is in-tune with politics. I was texting someone earlier today about "the leg session" and they thought I was talking about leg day at the gym
Real thing said to me tonight: “Are you sure you didn’t get your position [with the RJ] because of how you look?”
This is, and I cannot stress enough, something you should NEVER say to a female (or any gender, for that matter) professional.
Additionally, I had a staffer follow me and record at least three of my interviews. I watched staffers do the same thing to other reporters. Appeared to make at least one of my interviewees nervous.
This also happened to me. A staffer tried not once but twice to cut off my interview with a voter who said they thought Biden should step down. They then ushered me and the voter inside because “the Vp is almost here” but the VP did not show up for another 30 minutes.
🔴LIVE🔴 Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke speaking at Bibo’s Coffee Company. “I have seen what happens when democracy works...I show up for you.”
@NevadaSagebrush
The Indy gave me my start and without it, I would have never made it to where I am today. The recent news of mass layoffs across the media world have been difficult to stomach — but this is an entirely different kind of devastating. My heart hurts for the Indy & for Nevada.
"I am committed as I ever have been, and I know the staff is, too. I have never believed in anything more than I do in The Indy, the people who make it what it is and the mission we all have embraced." Via
@RalstonReports
So tired of Northern Nevada’s winter hearing me say “That was the scariest drive of my life” and immediately taking it as an opportunity to one-up itself
I’m so happy to share that I will be interning this summer for the business desk of the Los Angeles Times! Thank you to
@latimes
and the
@RSJNevada
for the incredible opportunity!
Sitting in the press room right now and there's a lobbyist standing in the hallway talking down on an article I wrote last week. Definitely doesn't know that the reporter sitting literally 10 ft away is indeed the person's whose byline was on that story
In ✨personal news✨, I'm excited to share that I've finished the last of my coursework for my undergrad degree in political science & journalism at
@unevadareno
+
@RSJNevada
. I will graduate in May with a 3.9 GPA! Please send any reporting or political comms job apps my way!
Regardless of your opinion on Jeff's legacy or reporting, he didn't just "die." He was allegedly stabbed to death in his own front yard by a politician he was reporting on—killed for protecting democracy. You can bet your bottom dollar we're going to lionize a hero like Jeff.
Some ✨personal news✨. I’m attending
@UISedu
to complete my master’s degree in the Public Affairs Reporting program
@UISPAR
this fall. So excited to start this next adventure! 🤩
I’m thankful for people who mentored me and supported me, with special thanks to
@ColtonLochhead
,
@lolonghi
&
@tabitha_mueller
. I’ll have more news soon about where I’m going next, but my commitment to doing good work for Nevada remains as strong as ever.
I had not one but TWO bylines at the top of the
@latimesbusiness
section over the weekend 🤩
I’m so thankful to have the opportunity to work with the incredible staff of
@latimes
!
For weeks I’ve been reaching out to workers concerned about coming back to work amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today, my byline for this story is on
@latimes
’ A1, next to
@margotroosevelt
&
@hugomartin
.
Being on A1 is the dream, but doing impactful journalism is even better.
I’m very happy to share that I’ve completed my master’s degree with
@UISPAR
and my internship with
@Suntimes
!! A special thank you to
@jasonpiscia
for his undying support and guidance over the part year.
Stay tuned for more news from the Silver State!
At an event in Reno,
@JoeLombardoNV
said he would fight against a nationwide abortion ban, if passed by Republicans in the Senate, and would uphold Nevada’s statute, which protects abortion up to 24 weeks.
From the
@unevadareno
's reopening plan for Fall '20:
"If a student refuses to wear a facial covering or otherwise comply with safety guidelines and also refuses to leave, a faculty member can ask Police Services to remove the noncompliant student from the classroom."
"So...what's it like to work with your dad?"—a question I never thought I'd ask a source, let alone 10+.
For one of my favorite stories I've written, I asked lobbyists about what it was like to follow their parents into the world of Nevada lobbying.
Getting roasted to hell in a Northern NV hikers FB group currently for a similar post bc people are mad about sharing pretty outdoor spots in Nevada with…other Nevadans?
Wanted to share a few more grad photos and some ✨professional news.✨I’ll be interning with the national desk of
@USATODAY
this summer!! Thank you to the
@ScrippsHowardFd
and
@RSJNevada
for their efforts to make this opportunity happen.
“I proudly endorse Sec. Castro (
@JulianCastro
) because I know he is someone who will represent my parents,” said Assemblyman Flores at an event in Las Vegas. He spoke about the tokenization of members of the migrant community.
I moderated a debate last night between Regent
@jgeddes
and former state Assemblyman
@ElliotAndersonv
on Nevada Ballot Question 1 for
@RGJ
. If you’re voting in Nevada, be sure watch and vote early!
Friday was my last day at
@rgj
. Thank you to everyone at the Reno Gazette Journal. I've learned and grown so much while working there over the last three months.
Check out my last byline, which takes a look at how NV's neighbors are dealing with COVID-19:
A break from your regularly scheduled election programming to share my new driver’s license photo (photo on the right was taken when I was 16). So glad to no longer be the flower girl 😂
I’m doing a story about how the burning of Lamoille Canyon has had an emotional impact on our community. If you have a story you want to share, I want to hear it.
So I put a quilt out on my front lawn and started doing work out there so I could catch the last little bit of sun and my neighbor (this cute little old lady) brought me a snack because “I made her day” bc I waved at her..my whole heart 🥺
What better way to share that I'm interning with the Reno Gazette Journal for the fall semester than with my first byline?
Thank you to the
@RSJNevada
and
@rgj
for the awesome opportunity!!
Anyways, back to the news:
The first two weeks of my first ever internship was covering the last two weeks of the NV Leg. with
@TheNVIndy
in 2019. Two years later, it is still my favorite event + beat I have ever covered. It instilled a feeling of pride in my home state and furthered my love of politics.
I’m at the Minden-Tahoe airport where former Pres. Trump is set to appear. Other guests will include U.S. Senate candidate
@AdamLaxalt
& gov candidate
@JoeLombardoNV
. Follow along for updates from me for
@reviewjournal
.
A reporter’s notebook complete—Friday was the last day of my 2nd internship in 6 months with
@USATODAY
. It’s been the opportunity of a lifetime and I’m so proud of the work I’ve done here.
A special thanks to
@ashleymaytweets
,
@DustinLBarnes
,
@realjohnbacon
and the U NOW desk.
The sweet old woman who does my dry cleaning just told me I look like a young Brigitte Bardot and you know what, that is exactly how I’d like to end my week
Filling out my mail-in ballot this morning and I am overcome with gratitude for all the journalists and editors that worked to provide coverage for races and big and small for this election. Thank you for all that you do for our state 💙
It’s official—Gov. Joe Lombardo has been sworn in. “Congratulations to all of you. We’re going to have a wonderful term,” he said to the other constitutional officers present.
Gov. Joe Lombardo has vetoed a bill authorizing rent stabilization for seniors and those with disabilities, according to sources close to Democratic leadership. AB298 is “an unreasonable restraint on standard business activity,” the gov said in his veto message.
Saw an old family friend at the store today and told him I’m starting at L.A. Times on Monday and his only response was, “That’s pretty liberal” and suggested I should apply for Fox News instead. I HATE IT HERE
