My thoughts are with the loved ones of those aboard the airplane and military helicopter that tragically collided last night above the Potomac River. This loss of life is devastating. I’m also grateful to the first responders who undertook search and rescue and recovery efforts in cold, windy conditions last night and are continuing their work today.
A jet with 60 passengers and four crew members collided with an Army helicopter while approaching the Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington on Wednesday. Here is what is known about the collision.

On #HolocaustRemembranceDay, we remember the victims of the Holocaust and the lasting impact it had on our global community, particularly the Jewish community. We must recommit ourselves to combating rising antisemitism and other forms of religious and ethic based hatred and violence, and building tolerance and safety for all people.
Throughout history, the Jewish people have displayed strength amidst hardship and resilience amidst tragedy. In honor and tribute to those we lost more than 80 years ago, we remember the stories of the six million Jewish souls, along with millions of others, systematically murdered by the Nazis. At home and abroad, we are witnessing a frightening rise in antisemitism. We cannot allow hatred and anger to rule our nation, and must show compassion and respect for our fellow citizens.

52 years ago today, #RoeVWade became the law of the land, guaranteeing #ReproductiveFreedom to all women. As Pro Tem, I authored #Prop1 to enshrine these rights in the CA Constitution. And I will work tirelessly until these rights are reestablished nationwide.

I’m saddened to hear of Cecile Richards’ passing. As Planned Parenthood’s CEO, her leadership and advocacy for #ReproductiveFreedom propelled our movement forward. We owe her a debt of gratitude for her tireless work.

Martin Luther King Jr. famously said “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” Today, I am encouraged by his belief that justice will prevail and committed to working to make equality and justice for all a reality in our nation. #MLKDay

Creating the #CalEITC to help families like the one I grew up afford necessities like housing and health care was one of my proudest achievements in the #CALeg. As Governor, I will continue to prioritize affordability for California families. Thank you, @GSOpportunity, for this recognition.

I was honored to join the San Diego Human Trafficking Summit to discuss ways we can address this critical issue. California has among the highest incidences of human trafficking, and we must continue our work to #StopHumanTrafficking and protect survivors.

1980 was the first election I voted in. I voted for Jimmy Carter. He did not win, but I was proud to get to vote for him. And I went off to college and became a political science major. As I reflect on his legacy, I believe President Carter's last gift to the world at this interesting point in history is really a challenge for us to be better. To do better. The lesson I heard watching his service was to put partisanship behind and be better stewards of this world for our survival. We should all try to follow his example - leading with kindness, empathy & humility. Godspeed to a great humanitarian.
