Cesar Azpilicueta averages 47 games per season for Chelsea, including a 5 season spell where he made 186/190 league appearances.
Across his time since 2012/13 he's also won every competition he's played in.
He's played under 8 managers and has proven his worth to them all...
"It hasn't quite worked for Jackson at the moment."
He scored 14 non-penalty goals in his first year in the Premier League, more than ANY Liverpool player.
Got 5 assists with that.
The Jackson narrative that *still* exists is crazy to me.
"Hopefully we get to see him in the Premier League" 🤞
Jamie Carragher would love to see Victor Osimhen in the Premier League, with the striker linked with Chelsea 🔗
Mason Mount once again one of the last players to leave the pitch.
(If this is Thiago Silva or Mount's last UCL game in a Chelsea shirt then what a massive shame)
#CFC
Remarkable that in Trevoh Chalobah's first season as a first team player, he didn't lose a single game inside 120 minutes that he started.
30 games, 18 wins, 12 draws.
Add in four goals, it's been a great personal season for him.
Part of the plans for next season🔥
Mykhailo Mudryk has a better Premier League goals/assists ratio per90 than:
Martin Odegaard
Gabriel Martinelli
Eberechi Eze
Raheem Sterling
Luis Diaz
Alejandro Garnacho
Marcus Rashford
Dejan Kulusevski
Bruno Fernandes.
Presented without context, of course.
Removing Hudson-Odoi from the
#Chelsea
squad and replacing him with Gordon doesn't get
#CFC
anywhere.
Buying young players to replace your own is weird. Manage CHO correctly and he would already and still could be much better than Gordon.
@Chelsea_FL
Nicolas Jackson is three goals away from matching Timo Werner's Chelsea PL total, he's played 37 less games.
Cole Palmer is two away, he's played 46 less.
Chelsea would get much more from this season if they prioritised Lewis Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka's minutes over senior players. Same for Dion Rankine instead of Azpilicueta and arguably Humphreys in defence too. Hutchinson over Aubameyang too.
Joao Felix in Chelsea training for the first time, Reece James returns and N'Golo Kante taking forward steps.
It's a good day for
#CFC
fans.
@Chelsea_FL
of a Champions League winning side.
I'm not bothered if he's underrated or whatever, he's just simply superb and deserves all the credit for what is an astonishing career.
He's played in a possible 8 positions in the same time.
Not only is he proof that one of the best abilities is availability (
@matissearmani
), his consistency is not only proven over a 9 year period, it's been, and arguably remains, at a world class level...
Conor Gallagher will follow Ian Maatsen and Lewis Hall in going from Chelsea straight to a team in the Champions League when
#CFC
aren't in the competition.
A reminder that Chelsea have not only freely allowed this to happen but have actively pushed for it.
He was arguably the best 1v1 defender in the league and maybe world between 2014-2017 at a time that included Terry, Kompany and Zabaleta.
I find it remarkable that he is still playing and starting every week but it's fully deserved. Even at 32, he remains a key component...
Aston Villa are signing Chelsea's best left-back for £37m.
Chelsea are signing Villa's 18yo striker with 2 PL appearances for £19m.
This is what Chelsea are.
Pochettino on contracts: "In England, for example, the directors don't like players coming to the end of their contracts for fear of them leaving on a free, although it's something that coaches could more often use to motivate them and test a player's mental state."👀
#CFC
Deciding that Gallagher is going to be a squad player after playing 50/51 games without the new manager having a single training session is more than disingenuous.
What happened to giving players a chance/clean slate to prove themselves?
Levi Colwill for England? No surprise. Chelsea were the only people over the summer that didn't see the value in using him.
This time last year he should have been in the thinking. It won't change much but it could have saved them a lot.
@Chelsea_FL
#CFC
Possession-based system.
Conor Gallagher made more passes at a higher percentage last season in a tougher league and a not-so-dominant team than Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who is effectively his replacement.
Colwill playing well so everyone wants him now but didn't think he was all that over the summer is so funny.
When he's at Chelsea next year people will turn again after one mistake and say he's not good enough.
Say what you want about Nicolas Jackson but goals are a striker's currency.
He's matched Havertz's total from last year in 19 less games.
Raw, not the full package, but talented and developing.
In the little over 12 months since this, Brighton and De Zerbi have lost more games than they've won (P62, W23, L24).
In the Premier League that's 17 wins in 49 matches.
What changed?
Yes, Chelsea have spent £400m under Todd Boehly to effectively go backwards on the pitch. No, that's not good.
I'm bored of the narrative around it too.
#CFC
have £400m worth of players unavailable currently and results don't represent them.
@Chelsea_FL
Trevoh Chalobah could come back to
#Chelsea
next season and be in the same spot he is now. Azpi, *Fofana*, Koulibaly, Silva all in front. Him leaving puts pressure on Silva this season + it's valuable time with Tuchel wasted.

Table the PIF thing, it's refreshing to see Chelsea swallow their pride and move on from failed transfers before it's too late.
Ziyech, Mendy, Koulibaly, Kovacic and Loftus-Cheek all close, Mount not far behind. Good start to the window.
#CFC
Fans are desperate for Chelsea to sign another midfielder as well as Caicedo (21) to add experience but aren't keen on letting Casadei (20) have a chance.
Lavia is 19, so is Santos, Hall is 18. They're all comporable. Just because Lavia would be new doesn't mean he's better.
I don't like the idea of people celebrating a man losing his job. Graham Potter owes Chelsea very little.
He left a very stable job that had seen him rise to be one of the most highly rated coaches to join something completely unstable. He'll be back and so will Chelsea.
Reece James and Ben Chilwell playing for Chelsea in Europe:
⌛️Games: 17
✅Wins: 12
🤝Draws: 2
❌Losses: 3
⚽️Scored: 29 (3G, 4A between them)
🥅Conceded: 5
That's a ridiculous record.
#CFC
Chelsea going for Mudryk makes very little sense with their need for a new midfielder and rightback. Their ability to get involved does show the upside to their new recruitment team though.
@Chelsea_FL
Roberto De Zerbi last year: "You give too much importance to the coaches because the players are always the most important.
"I don’t like when the coaches are sacked because the responsibility is not only theirs – it’s the players, the club, it’s not very good news."
🤨
#CFC
Felix and Thuram don't move the needle far enough to be worth a massive outlay, neither is it wise to add them on top of Aubameyang.
#CFC
desperately need more quality and neither player is old but the circumstances must be right to move ahead
@Chelsea_FL
Reece James is Chelsea's best player and his job on Leao embaressed Serie A. He'll be back stronger tonight but if AC Milan can't solve the workrate then expect James to run riot.
He's just too good not to warrant a plan to stop him.
@Chelsea_FL
#CFC
Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah (plus Ian Maatsen, not to mention the others) are worth more to Chelsea than the points they might lose with a PSR punishment that likely comes with not selling them.
And it's not even particularly close. Case closed. End of.
#Chelsea
have paid more than the £32m Diego Costa cost in 2014 7⃣ times to replace him. Olivier Giroud at £15m is the closest they came and he's 35 but is scoring Didier Drogba type goals.
#CFC
need Aubameyang to be the new Giroud.
@Chelsea_FL
Hudson-Odoi with his fourth PL goal in nine starts + one assist this season.
Mudryk and Madueke combined - 13 starts, five goals, two assists.
One was from the academy, the other cost a combined £97million.
Albeit from RB, which does have its own caveat, Reece James' underlying numbers are as good - arguably better - than Frenkie De Jong's.
It's not the time yet, but
#Chelsea
could save themselves £70m by using James in CM more long-term.
#cfc
Graham Potter is more Carlo Ancelotti than Jose Mourinho or Antonio Conte, he's calmer and more relaxed but has CFC playing with the same doggedness of previous managers.
It's suffer season and Potter is already embracing the former bosses.
@Chelsea_FL
It will be interesting to see how the 40,000+ fans at Stamford Bridge respond to rigid possession-based build-up football from an Italian manager because last time it didn't go down that well.
This might be what the heirarchy want but whether the fans agree is another thing.
"That is exactly the way Chelsea want to play" 💬
Kaveh Solhekol explains why Enzo Maresca is now Chelsea's preferred choice to replace Mauricio Pochettino 👇
#Chelsea
didn't get the best out of Thomas Tuchel. His UCL triumph was proof of what he could do but circumstances made seeing his true
#CFC
vision tough.
If this deal were to go through, this would be a game changer for the transfer market and for all Premier League clubs: if Saudi Arabia can get Liverpool’s captain, nobody is unobtainable (comment) 🔴
Chelsea average age Vs Everton in August - 28.8 (6 players 30+)
Chelsea average age Vs Everton today - 24.6 (6 players 24 and under)
Quite the turnaround and a step forward.
In 2 years Zaha will be 31 and Aubameyang 35. Do
#Chelsea
want to sacrifice large wages and more than £50m of fees without resale value for a duo that would only hinder long-term plans?
Ask yourself, would
#CFC
with a DoF make either deal?
@Chelsea_FL
Mourinho thought 11 2014 Azpilicuetas could win the Champions League, how many Reece Jameses is that? 7? 8?
Potter only has one James and may only need one James, but Mourinho was right all along. Tuchel was on the right line, just clone him.
@Chelsea_FL
Chelsea confident of Aubameyang bid being good enough. (
@BobbyVincentFL
-
@Chelsea_FL
)
Plans will now be in place you'd expect for life with him in the front three, it's a different deal to what you'd expect, but there's certainly perks to it as well.
Same old boring, boring,
#Chelsea
.
Sacking a manager too soon and not giving them the chance, sound familiar? It is. Tuchel was the mix of Conte/Mourinho
#CFC
needed and his story is similar but shouldn't be confused as the same thing happening again.
Thomas Tuchel never got the freedom to rebuild
#Chelsea
that Graham Potter has, now the new boss can streamline the club.
The situation has drastically changed since January 2021 and Potter's latest addition could be a masterstroke for
#CFC
.
@Chelsea_FL
"Carlo, it's Thomas Tuchel on the phone. We're back."
Zakaria's profile alone offers TT choices he hasn't had before, and he could go to an old
#Chelsea
tactic to make it all work.
#CFC
The reaction to Denis Zakaria has been frankly embaressing.
Last night
#Chelsea
were linked with two lesser known players and all of a sudden Sangare and Alvarez were great buys. Now Zakaria is the man and it's shocking?
His injury record is nowhere near as bad as the reaction.
Mauricio Pochettino joins Thomas Tuchel, Christopher Vivell, Marina Granovskaia, Petr Cech, Bruce Buck, Cesar Azpilicueta, Emma Hayes, N'Golo Kante, Thiago Silva, Christopher Lollichon, and more as people proven at the top of European football to leave Chelsea in the last 2 years
Graham Potter has Raheem Sterling back in a position where he scored 109 PL goals.
#Chelsea
did their bit to get him a goal, the rest needs to follow.
#cfc
Christopher Vivell's appointment is exciting, it's new, it's different and progressive but it's not short term.
There's plenty to get on with but Chelsea won't see the results for a while, and that's okay.
@Chelsea_FL
#CFC
"I have been at Chelsea pretty much my whole life. I started here when I was six and to come through the Academy is tough.
"But to go on and become captain, it's a great feeling for me and my family."
He gets it.
#CFC
Tuchel had midfield choices to experiment with this summer, he's gone against using them in favour of experience again and now he might be left without much choice.
Selling Gilmour looks bad now and will look worse in 12-18 months.
@Chelsea_FL
#CFC
Some not very controversial Chelsea/Pochettino thoughts.
-Feels inevitable he won't be in charge next season
-No trust in fans towards coach, players, sporting directors, and owners
-Results may improve but it's already too late (for Poch), faith is lost
-Similar to Sarri season
Tuchel loves Mount, Mount has comparable qualities to Gordon.
It doesn't make him worth £50m, but Tuchel struggled to make PSG gel with Mbappe/Neymar - Di Maria was used most of the trio - you can see why TT wants these players vs individuals.
Wrote this in December, since then Levi Colwill has had a Reece James level loan at Huddersfield, promotion is on the cards.
He is more than ready for
#Chelsea
next season and any offers should be laughed at.
Trust Cobham, trust Tuchel, trust Colwill.
Step aside Kante, James is Chelsea's new Mbappe. Judging Potter with this current group is wrong, nobody can solve the equation without him, he's that unique.
He's more to CFC than De Bruyne or Van Dijk to Liverpool/City, he's irreplaceable.
@Chelsea_FL
There's no monetary value you can put on Pochettino turning up to Cobham on July 1 and not having to think about what to do with Kante, Ziyech, Mendy and Koulibaly.
Games missed by Chelsea players due to injury this season:
N'Golo Kante - 34
Armando Broja - 30*
Reece James - 25*
Wesley Fofana - 20
Edouard Mendy - 15
Mason Mount - 13*
Ben Chilwell - 11*
Christian Pulisic - 11
Kalidou Koulibaly - 10*
Denis Zakaria - 10
Raheem Sterling - 9
Kovacic usually does well against Spurs and
#CFC
are usually at their best when he is with Jorginho. Kova's injury puts maybe Chelsea's least progressive midfield together and now there's a big choice to make.
3-5-2 anyone?
@Chelsea_FL
#cfc
Azpilicueta, Loftus-Cheek and Kante are the only members of the 16/17
#Chelsea
title-winners. RLC might be the only one left next summer, in true Boehly style it would be the true end of an era.
Kante is brilliant, but he's not irreplaceable.
@Chelsea_FL
I do find it interesting that people can justify £80m on Fofana this window but not on Rice.
Fofana has played 5x less league matches than Rice and would be just as important over the next 5+ years.
Another year of Thiago Silva, where do I sign up😍
He'll be playing PL football at 39 when the rest of the transfers are nearly half his age, it's flexibility in the market and it's just as important as any other deal.
#CFC
@Chelsea_FL
The circumstances at Chelsea (basically since the summer) have needed a firefighter manager. Since Potter came in things have only gotten harder.
He isn't that sort of manager and what we're seeing on the field is the team being coached by a man not sure what to do.
The deal for Alvarez currently looks off, but with the player making his own move to push something forward,
#Chelsea
have already seen how this can impact things for the better and worse.
Information from
@BobbyVincentFL

@Chelsea_FL
Going searching for a DM this late in the window is the complete summary of the pros/cons of Boehly+Tuchel this window.
Deals have been done, lots of good ones, but failure to see problems earlier has only hindered the season so far.
@Chelsea_FL
#cfc
If Chelsea sack Pochettino they will need to find a manager happy to join having just seen the predecessor dismissed for hitting expectations in tough conditions and accept losing the stand-in captain (+probable best defender).
These parameters rule out most coaches immediately.
There has never been a better excuse to use Harvey Vale. Players blocking him want out, Aubameyang and Gordon wouldn't be enough cover. He needs to be involved next season.

#CFC
Marcos Alonso in the news?
I lost complete faith under Lampard and haven't changed tack since.
Unfortunately he embodies everything wrong with areas of this Chelsea squad. The arrogance, the slowness, the uncreative nature, the switch-on/switch-off when it pleases nature.
Loftus-Cheek has the best profile match to James as a wingback, inverted options with Cucurella and Chilwell exist, getting the best out of Azpilicueta over 9 matches is hard.
Another early test for Potter, but he's good enough to handle it.
@Chelsea_FL
The players will know what that meant to Graham Potter. After a tough 6 months that feels so sweet.
He was getting death threats for doing his job and now he's a Champions League quarter-finalist.
