This is factually incorrect. The EU explicitly stated that Afghanistan does NOT have a recognised government. I also consistently referred NOT to the ‘government’ or the ‘de facto authorities’ but to ‘the Taliban’. I was far from alone. Listening is a great skill, Mr Jalal.
The important takeaway from Tashkent is that all the participant countries & organizations including the United States, used the term Afghan government in their speeches. The current system is a reality that cannot be ignored anymore. Initial stage of recognition has begun.

Something that also upsets me is the double standards and the lack of courage and plain decency. Big, brave Taliban fighters turned into acting ministers, sending their daughters to get educated abroad or organising private teaching for girls, which is good.

UN SR Richard Bennett: Further instability and suffering in #Afghanistan may be mitigated by opening secondary schools for girls, establishing an inclusive administration representing every segment of the Afghan society, and providing a platform for dialogue redressing grievances.

In #Afghanistan, the dire humanitarian crisis has been now further aggravated by an earthquake. An estimated 270,000 people living in the affected areas will require assistance. In response, the EU is mobilising an initial €1 million in emergency support.

#Afghanistan is facing a harsh winter. The UN Humanitariarian Appeal is only funded at 45%. I urge China, Russia and the OIC to follow the example of the UK, the US, the EU and others by significantly stepping up humanitarian assistance, while humanitarian access must be secured.
