Mulsanne maths: 6 miles @ 11mpg = £4 fuel. Walking 6 miles is 600 Kcals. Steak is 2500 Kcals/kg - good steak is £40/kg - so walking would cost about £9. Mulsanne is cheaper than walking.

30 550 Maranello miles this morning. ‘Only’ 485 bhp but it pulls like train, my word. Low drag and weight and a fabulous V12 still ‘does it’ way better than most modern supercars for me.

There’s a big chunk of me that struggles to get my head around the price of cars today! Fabulous thing, but £200k is a lot of money! Plus, assuming someone finances it…that could be nigh on a quarter of a million quid!

I was asked a straight question the other day: which car do you like most? It’s this one. It’s hard to drive well, it’s horrific on fuel, ridiculously expensive to run and the clutch makes my left foot go dead in traffic. But, it’s a V12, manual Ferrari. I love it muchly.

In other Ferrari news, I’ve had this out a bit recently…it’s just so bloody proper. Feels so much faster than my 355 - like a train with the torque. It takes effort to drive…which is marvellous.

I had a moment earlier this week. Everything was getting sold. I’ll buy a 991 manual and run it everyday…zero hassle, lots of use and smiles per mile. Laura can have the family car and life is simpler. Then I drive one of the old girls and that plan gets canned.

It’s odd. I miss my old 355 F1. Originally silver and repainted red (not by me) and imperfect elsewhere, too. It drove really well and I wasn’t too precious about it. My ‘new’ blue one, on the other hand, is everything I ever wanted…and maybe a little too perfect. I’m confused!

This pic explains adequately why it always seems a bit easier to jump in the 996…in all honesty I care a little less about it, it’s newer than the 993, and it’s a bit more refined.

£16,450 for the Clio…it’s on Leicester and done 49k miles. Proper thing, serviced, good tyres and dampers checked out a year ago by a Mercedes’ F1 techie! He wouldn’t take my money for a rebuild as there was nothing wrong with them! Cost me a bottle of champagne and that was it!
