@mike0callaghan GP medicine has been transformed & become more complex (&interesting) in recent years. As well as increased follow up of tests and referrals and bureaucracy we have a heavy CPD load just to keep up to date. CPD is always out of hours or weekends.

@itsthatgirlsuzi Paradoxically Grad Entry may aggravate inequity. Debt such doctors accrue is enormous. Affects career choices by forcing them into high income technical specialties. Need financial supports for grad entrants going into GP esp in deprived urban and rural areas.

Wow! Hits the nail on the head. This editorial traces the deprofessionalisation of NHS general practice. The legacy of austerity, bad politics and a proud profession caving in to box ticking. @BJGPjournal @ICGPnews @HSELive DOI:

@Ellebelles1 There is a barely suppressed anti doctor culture in some hospitals. Expresses itself on our junior doctors. Easy targets. Our senior doctors need to take more interest in their welfare. Hospital boards & management cannot hide from their responsibility.

@Dr_BellaR I’ve been a GP for 45 years. Many of my patients call me ‘Tom’. And call my other younger male and female colleagues by first names also. I value it. We’re partners in their health story. Lowers barriers I think. More democratic.

@ritakj I think hospitals should ask GP practice managers about running their OPDs. We regularly have 150 - 200 patients booked in each morning by appointment. By and large it works and certainly no one has to wait an hour. Hospital management needs to start managing.

@ICGPnews had the last of our monthly webinars for 2024 tonight. 1800 GPs and GPNs on line to hear about topics as varied as chronic pain and the diagnosis of sepsis - has a mortality of 20%. A good year for GP that faces 2025 and a new Health Minister with confidence.
