Yesterday my cousin lost his sweet little girl, Jane, in the same way I lost Michael. She went to bed at night and woke up in heaven. There were no medical issues, no warning or hint of anything wrong. Knowing what a profound, brutal, unrelenting type of grief this is,

One of the happiest moments of my life was not when I became a mother, but when my son first called me “mama.” Adoption brings a dichotomous commingling of joy + sorrow, and with it a tension through which your joy, at the cost of someone else’s loss, is filtered, esp. early on.

IMO the only redeeming thing about “Mary Did You Know” is that a whole group of Christians who never give Mary a second thought for fear they may accidentally worship her, spend time meditating on the mystery of the incarnation through her eyes through the song.

@TheMistressB It’s not the “taking” of a child that’s problematic. It’s the transactional commoditization of human life; the intentional creation of life knowing the child will be separated from the only mother he/she’s known for the sole purpose of satisfying adult desires.
