If I sold all my sponsorship slots it would be 252k a year (it only goes out on weekdays) but the rest checks out, infra costs are super low maybe like $400-500 a month mostly from Amazon SES.

If you're dumping money with that sized list I would go with Quora or a hyper targeted subreddit if possible, then once you hit ~5k you can start with Facebook ads.

To explicitly answer your question, yes it is a coincidence, I don't give the email addresses out to anyone and I proactively unsubscribe anyone who hasn't opened the emails for a couple of months.

Inbox rate improved because I have my own dedicated IPs now from Amazon SES. CTR is low due to the nature of the newsletter (every article comes with a summary inside the newsletter which reduces incentive to click through).

About an hour, I have the process pretty streamlined at this point. Don't batch produce, find new stuff everyday. Demographics come from Google Analytics on "Thank you for signing up" page!

Ideas for reinvesting that worked for me:
Remarketing ads are pretty low hanging fruit once you have the funds and enough traffic to be worth it.
