Some big news! I have a book contract with @UNMPress to write first comprehensive history of Black Catholics' role in #Brazil affirmative action and #highered expansion.

@ferald_gord Yep. He considered it an anti-Marxist strategy as well. "Our enemies may occasionally seize the day of change, but it is the banner of our revolution they take."

@dbessner So again: Sovereign countries do not have a right to enter into the economic blocs of their choosing (assuming the assent of said bloc)?

@dbessner I like to turn this question on its head. If a US neighbor were to enter BRICS, or Belt and Road, would you say "well, I decry the United States invading them, but US was really worried about Chinese encirclement?" No, you would (correctly) call that rightist propaganda.

@dbessner Ukraine applied to EU in 2022. That's a real move. Also, debates over EU were what triggered the 2004 protests Russia always cites. Regardless, the *basis* for the Russian invasion was a fear of admission into either organization (the unstated reason was pure expansionism).

@dbessner @keithdorejel And I wasn't *just* referring to you Danny though you are a leading voice of the Foreign Policy Left! But I won't take up more of Keith's thread. Always happy to discuss this on yours.

@keithdorejel Fair. What set me off was seeming conflation of Ukraine debate with one over resistance history. In my mind, that connected your views to certain "anti-anti-fascists" that do hold those views. If I'm being honest, that got to me (right or wrong). Not excuse. Just an explanation.

@keithdorejel Fair enough. Hard to lay out stuff on here. Thanks for engaging anyway. I appreciate your posts.
