Showing my age by using the George Graham comparison here. A good piece in the Times today on the new upbeat mood at Arsenal and some of the wider factors behind it
Very good news from the Arsenal Advisory Board. A long standing AST campaign has been for all the Arsenal matchday staff - employed directly and by agencies - to be paid the London Living Wage. This is now happening and Arsenal will apply for the Living wage accreditation
Don’t see any point going after Arteta. What this club needs is stability. But what a challenge for a rookie manager. Arsenal at present is no easy place for someone to be learning on the job
Disastrous new for Arsenal. Looking set to be wholly owned by American investor. Will transfer business to the US. No accountability, no transparency, finances hidden. Supporter shareholders forced out. Custodianship dead.
Keep calm. This game only confirms what we all knew. There are three outstanding teams in English football right now.
#Arsenal
have a decent chance of finishing best of an average rest. Carry on

Arsenal such a mess right now. Distant investor owner, powerless yes men on the Board, failing management and faded manager. Urgently needs an overhaul from top to bottom.
At the Emirates for the league cup game. The tickets being both much cheaper and easily available makes a noticeable difference to the crowd. Younger and more diverse. A lot more of Islington’s kids get in which is great
Those saying Arsenal don’t spend money. They certainly do. The wage bill is presently about £225m. Totally unsustainable in middle of a pandemic when playing behind closed doors and broadcast deals are being part refunded
£100m last summer on 2 players who are not first choice this season (one isn’t even considered ready to play)
£16m on a CB who we bought a replacement for 6 months into his time at the club
£6m loan fee & 4yr deal for a 29yo backup RB
Pretty slack for a club with limited cash
Of all the things Arsene Wenger could have done for the good of football in his post management life and he sells out to the FIFA/Infantino shilling to push a World Cup every two years. Sad
Main issue for Arsenal this year was always going to be being measured against last year’s achievements & especially that blistering start driven by the luck of an almost unchanged 11 for months. This is a strong start (unbeaten) with a more typical injury list. Keep the faith
This performance and defensive mess all stems from the contract debacles. Panic over Ozil and Sanchez led to Ozil and Miki being paid £550k a week combined and the cupboard was bare for essential defensive recruitments. Will cost the club for years
Of course I want Arsenal to play in the Champions League. But on merit. By beating the competition. What’s the point if they finish below but qualify over Leicester? How’s that what we want. On what metric are Arsenal worthy of guaranteed entry at the moment? What a disgrace
@charles_watts
The Arsenal Board judged him too inexperienced to manage Arsenal in Summer 2018. Not quite sure what managerial experience he had gained by November 2019. And then they promoted him. Poor governance = you reap what you sow
The Arsenal transformation clear tonight. From one man dominating everything to a new team approach - and they are all here meeting Arsenal fans tonight - Unai, Raul, Sven, Huss and Ivan leading the talking.
So Stan Kroenke placed the costs of him buying out Usamanov ONTO Arsenal. Sums it up really. A transaction to Arsenal’s disadvantage but the club bears the cost. RIP custodianship
The f word applies to the Pepe saga at Arsenal. Financial fiasco. Closing chapter sees £18.1m impairment write off. Total cost of £150m to club. Some might wonder if another f word applies......fraud?
Huge issues at Arsenal, many created last Jan. Too many overpaid players, too many old players with no resale, best player leaving for free, no senior football director (Sanllehi is agent/commercial), absent investor focused ownership. Hard to see things changing much next yr
Just been announced that next Tuesday there will be a debate in the House of Commons in Parliament on ‘the contribution of Arsene Wenger to the profile and performance of English football’
Taking this action in the week the new season starts just shows how little regard Kroenke has for the club. It’s what you get when club falls into hands of someone who doesn’t support the club but merely sees it as money making. RIP Custodian Arsenal
Really do recommend
@arseblog
today for this overview of the Sanhelli departure. A very good summary of the situation from a writer who has been on top of highlighting the internal governance problems around this role all season.
No wonder Arsenal are trying to force through a European super league they are guaranteed entry to. Completely unable to manage themselves as a club that qualifies through the league on merit. Mediocrity selling its soul
Because Arsenal need to make major improvements. Improve the Ticket exchange; build an App; Donate option; then have home credits so seats get used / put back. Hoping new management will address this. Meeting them this week.
Leicester’s story over recent yrs is amazing. And it has many facets. But surely it all starts with having an owner (and son) who care. Ownership based on supporting, caring and putting something in rather than just making money delivers so much more. Who’d have thought it?..
At the Emirates for a screening of City v Arsenal. So well done by The club. Temperature checks, photo ID, hand gel, one way signposting, only staff at the bar. Socially distanced watching. Feel totally safe. I’m sure a few thousand of us would be just as safe in the stands
Arsenal should sack Ozil. Yes they’d still have to pay him. That’s a cost. But look at the benefits. Being seen to have a backbone. Leadership. Being in control. And ending this ridiculous saga and indulgence. Move him on. Move on
Cech joins Chelsea. No problem with that. Good luck to him. But shows why it was wrong to play him in the final. We aren't a charity. Should be 100% about winning and the strongest possible team. Time for Arsenal to stop playing at being losers.
Outrageous there is no Ozil at the Emirates today when he is paid so much money and there are many positives he could offer. For instance the refreshment kiosk on the Upper Tier West side could do with an extra pair of hands
So galling for Arsenal fans to watch our best player being bartered for by United and City. Owner, manager and management presiding over a decline to feeder club status within Premier League
Reflecting on Arsenal yesterday most encouraging factor was manager prepared to take off the once again ineffectual Ozil. Not intimidated by reputation or wage bill. Does Ozil have the capability to respond and fight for Arsenal? Hmmmm. Let’s see
Yes Arsenal need a clear out and fresh start. But to do it in the middle of a pandemic when income has dried up and players will see out large contracts is so tough. Really feel for Arteta. Cornered in every direction. And not exactly experienced in this sort of stuff
Under this takeover, Kroenke can move Arsenal to Delaware in the US. Then he can pay management fees and dividends without scrutiny. Can also load debt onto the club - this offer is funded by Deutsche Bank. RIP Arsenal Custodianship.
Right decision by Arsene Wenger. Time had come. Was and always will be a club legend. By taking decision now fans have chance to say farewell without any angst. Will be an emotional farewell. Hopefully with a trophy. Au revoir Arsene
Cech issue is simple regardless of his next move. It’s a massive game worth about £40m and the status of being in top tier of football. Will shape Arsenal’s medium term future. You play your best football team. That’s not Cech in goal. Why are football clubs so amateur?
Unai Emery is only head coach. And only been here six months. No way is his approach to Ozil not supported by Football MD Raul Sanllehi. And Club can’t back down now. Whoever is manager. Player power fatal for any club. So bye bye Ozil. Don’t let the door hit you on way out
Ivan Gazidis getting a pay rise to £2.6m for his last season at Arsenal. What on earth is he supposed to have achieved?! Revenues fell in every category, Football was pretty awful. Easy money with no accountability.
Arsenal should have sorted the Ramsey situation over the summer. Instead our chief executive was busy sorting out his own contract and financial priorities. Big cost to a club already in a tough financial position
@ChrisWheatley_
Why does past achievements allow you to break club rules and more importantly the country’s public health requirements during a pandemic?
Arteta has had quite a lot of say. He signed and plays Willian. He signed Ceballos. He persuaded Xhaka to stay. He agreed to Mari and Cedric transfers. He pushed out Ozil & Torreria & Guendozi. He selects his 11 from a big pool of players. Can’t abdicate the responsibility
AST has met with Boris more than with Stan Kroenke. What a farce! A column today on why things have to change and how the Government review led by
@tracey_crouch
can make the difference

If you can talk about football why can't he talk about politics? Everyone has the right to free speech and that's a great thing
There is zero chance of Kroenke putting money into Arsenal this January or ahead. The two new MDs have done a round of interviews repeatedly making the point that he won’t. Improvement relies on shrewd signings, loans and young talent coming good. Not easy.
Semi-final night: Manager banned. Ozil having another of his ‘winter’ breaks. Sanchez benched. Party boy picked. What a carry on. Maybe out of the farce comes force. Let’s hope
Arsenal have to repay this £120m loan in May. That is also the month they would expect to receive up to £70m from season ticket holders for the following season. Shows how much rests on the return of fans.
Don’t see point in paying £85 for a ticket and the main action takes place on a tv screen and you don’t even see live in the ground. Doesn’t matter if goes for or against you it’s just rubbish. Let the game flow
What will alarm the club as much as the performance today is the fact a grade A London derby didn’t sell out (of course it’s all related). First time unsold seats at a big Premier League Arsenal game since Denis Bergkamp signed.
Arsenal paid £13.5m to agents last year. That's the equivalent of every season ticket holder paying about £337 of their renewal money straight to the agents. Across football £263m spent. Urgently needs reform
Gazidis needs to stop negotiating his own status and salary and get on with sorting the Ramsey contract and rest of transfer in/outs. What a time to repay the £20m already taken out of Arsenal
Kroenke lied about engaging with fans at time of first takeover. Now he is compulsory forcing out supporter shareholders so doesn’t have to attend an AGM with them or explain how club is being run. An awful day for the club’s values and future hopes
Not that surprised nor disappointed at Arsenal’s result. The tank is empty. But what a journey & achievement to get this far. I do think the reaction after & in the pub shows the challenge for next year. A big ask to be as good again over 38 games.
Dear Father Christmas. Please please please can I have a new manager. And a midfield. A couple of defenders would be good (please check the instructions that they can actually defend). And as I’ve been good this year any chance of a new owner? Love Tim
#Arsenal
