for those curious, the lyrics to robin's song in her ult are the following !!
rise up into my world (welcome to my world),
renew your definition ~
woah so high, let me show!
and hear my declaration ~
hoyoverse just KNEW there'd be sunday mischaracterization 🤡
the fact they had to use ROBIN of all ppl to say it AND theres still ppl shitting on sunday is just wild to me,,,
the most accurate feeling i got after finishing the quest was that sunday is a simple yet also complex character. his goal is good but his means and methods if achieving it infringe on the rights we commonly see as “freedom”.

it seems like 1-3 could be obsidian and 8-9 is pearl !! very excited for the stoneheart cast to be revealed finally hehehe,,,,
its almost like the otto situation all over again; we hate him for his deeds and philosophies but hes such a well-written villain/antagonist that you cant help but understand and feel for him.
sunday’s definition of freedom should be simplified as “pursuit of individual desires IN A CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT”.
the “controlled environment” is like how parents put up a fenced off play area for infants or owners for pets :: its goal is to RESTRICT the freedom, not RID it.
liberty in this sense is freedom: freedom to do as you please, as you choose, as you desire…
it represents a united peace tied by individual pursuit.
this is most clearly represented by robin who believes that birds ought to be free.
sunday’s vision of paradise and vision is NOT that people have no freedom at all, but rather that the pursuit of it is controlled and in a safe environment where all can be free and equal no matter where.
security on the other hand is a barrier or fence that restricts ones free will.
it represents one suffering in reality while others sing in euphoria.
this is represented by sunday who believes that birds should be caged for protection.
while robin and the others hold more of a modernized view of freedom, sunday is stuck in a religious and highly traditional way of thinking.
you can actually see this kind of logical reasoning in older generations. sunday similarly is also unable to change his views, like them.
sunday is rooted in the order’s ways. he believes that only through pursuing order, even if it comes at the price of his own wellbeing, is enough to create an unending paradise for all people.
sunday’s belief in the order is also most likely why is has huge “control freak” tendencies and most likely a perfectionist.
his rigid attitude and behavior is an extremely methodological and traditional form of thinking.
sunday chose to be an overprotective bird and not let his fledglings (dreamers of penacony) off to experience the world themselves.
sunday’s logic is not unreasonable, in fact, its ridiculously reasonable and quite sound of a theory.
his sister was SHOT IN THE NECK. she couldve DIED. i think he has a N O R M A L reaction as a sibling who actually CARES 😂😂😂
my brother and i arent close but even i know that if we were in the same situation, hed be overprotective of me 🤡
as a result, this makes him come off as controlling, quite similar to how parents come off as controlling when they restrict a child from playing on devices or eating candy. its ultimately to protect their children.
i would actually even compare sunday and the people of penacony to the analogy of a mother bird and her nest.
all birds eventually will need to learn how to fly, whether thats through care, sheer instinct, or trial and error.
the only issue is that in practice it comes at the cost of either the people themselves or the instigator.
you cannot take upon the responsibility and right to control other people’s lives and expect them to submit like obedient children.
++ sunday has spoiling tendencies and an overindulgent parenting perspective.
he wants to provide and be strong for all. his “family” could even be considered to be the whole of penacony. his and robin’s dreams intercross at this exact point :: humanity is akin to “family”.
erm actually, let me just debunk everything 🤓☝️
1. sunday suggested the idea that in order to summon the harmonious choir, you need to become a "star" first. it becomes VERY apparent in the latter part of the quest, specifically when we fight him, that the "star" he means is ++
@acheswaan
1) The idea of becoming a super star came not to Robin, but Sunday
2) Robin was literally trapped and forced to sing and Sunday was ok with that
3) When Robin was hurt during her travel Sunday decided he should have not allow her to go there
4) In Robin's trailer we see Sunday >>
so “as long as a parent keeps giving the child candy, they will always be satisfied”.
for sunday this would be :: “as long as the people keep having blissful dreams, they will always be happily sated in their desires”.
only through constantly appeasing the child, the everhungry and curious infant can a parent safely say “my child is happy”, or at least, thats what sunday most likely sees it.
hes very much so an “ends justify the means” type of character.
however as mentioned before, this kind of logic can be dangerous.
take the child-candy situation. that child might end up with body malfunctions due to excess of sugar or high blood pressure.
now apply it to penacony. the people will lose sight of reality and their humanity.
but once again, in sunday’s eyes, this kind of theory and idea is okay BECAUSE there is someone in control. because HE is there to guide his “children”, the people of Penacony, to live a life free of worries.
in the most simple terms i can think of while i type this @ 3 am ++
-- sunday explicitly states that he despises the idea of "survival of the fittest" by alluding the concept as the sourcepoint of all suffering and tragedy in the world. he refers to it as a "dystopia", "oppresses the weak" and "exploits them".
-- it should be wildly clear that sunday's ideal paradise does NOT support "survival of the fittest" which is the BASIS of eugenics. thus its logical that sunday does not support it.
-- his dream of penacony is to TEACH the weak a way of survival that belongs to EVERYONE.
kantian theory in relation to sunday is simply "people have the right to freedom but can enter a social contract with the government to PRESERVE those freedoms".
pretty straightforward right? its essentially a direct parallel, given sunday's boss name is "embryo of philosophy".

server in progress::
"citizens of penacony have a right to freedom BUT enter the dreamscape under the protection of the Family to maximize their freedoms, in dreams."
once again, like kant, sunday isnt denying the fact people have inherent freedom, but rather recognizing the idea that people seek ++
alr continuing where we left off, my muddled 3 am brain for some reason didnt connect sunday with kantian theory despite being a LD theory debater in high school.

id like to first address one very crucial point. OP in the below screenshot states that christians especially protestants benefit from eugenics. as a protestant christian raised by strict religious parents, i have MANY things to say about how utterly wrong this thread is.
i dont support harassment of any kind. my threads are strictly informational and to provide insight to the general public. this thread's ONLY purpose to clarify the misunderstandings in OP's thread and also stop further mischaracterization of sunday.
++ protection of a government to preserve their individual rights.
the most interesting part ab sunday and kantian theory is actually that he doesnt really follow the categorical imperative (ill explain), which is a huge centerpiece when talking content.
a) sunday is not trying to rid society of the weak. his utopia focuses around helping the weak survive alongside the strong. he despises the fact that humanity is weak, yes, but it is for that EXACT reason, that he aims to create a paradise that includes all types of people.
protestantism is a very big category of multiple branches. grouping them up and claiming that they essentially endorsed eugenics is wrong in and of itself. in addition, sunday takes from catholicism, not protestantism. protestants diverged from catholic thinking due to many ++
the categorical imperative promotes "universalizable actions" which is the most simple of terms is that an action should be moral no matter what scenario or situation.
for example, if person A wants to kill person B, then B should be able to kill A first. BUT A would be dead ++
machiavelli's theory has to do with violence, government, and how ends are justified with means.
similarly, sunday believes that if he can achieve a paradise for the majority, then any suffering that people receive is justified because it overall is achieving his goal.
once again, reminding everyone that this is in morally gray area and there is no correct answer bc morality is a huge ??? area up to individual interpretation.
so going based off the previous statement, sunday would believe its ok for the government to get their hands dirty ++
making the action illogical. thus, "killing" is immoral and not universalizable. essentially an action needs to be applicable in every kind of scenario.
but here's the issue: sunday doesnt follow universalizable actions OR the idea that "end DONT justify means". so what is he?
// preface :: i only bring up this figure for THEORY TALKING, i do not condone the icky or wack interpretations of him outside the scope of this thread.
this is where we start delving into the "morally grey" area. lets talk about machiavelli and sunday's relationship.
machiavelli is trying to say that if the government doesnt take action in terms of violence, then the people will instead be violent.
think of it like this :: if the government does not punish criminals, then the people or victims will pursue vengeance by committing crimes.
-- OP states that eugenics' end goal is "dominated by the intelligent, the strong, and the capable". however theres one VERY contradictory point in this string of logic.
-- this contradiction lies in sunday's stance of "survival of the fittest". tldr; he despises it.
this does NOT mean that sunday supports torture or unusual punishment by the way. machiavelli is not and should not be used in any way to justify cruel and unusual punishment.
machiavelli SHOULD however be taken into the context of government and its role in protecting citizens.
this paradise is available to all kinds of people, the disabled, the rich, the poor, the young, the elderly... NOWHERE does he exclude a group. his dream extends to ALL walks of life -- it DOESNT exclude a certain group, much less the disabled as OP claims.
his utopia is inclusive to all of humanity. its not an issue on whether the people themselves are deserving of paradise or not, sunday provides that paradise REGARDLESS.
this is a direct biblical parallel to the crucifixion of jesus despite him not deserving death.
++ corrupt issues and individuals being brought up in the church. just because eugenicist protestants existed does NOT mean that protestants supported eugenics. just because a square is a rectangle does NOT mean all rectangles are squares.
if we even take sunday's interaction with firefly as evidence, you need context.
his reference to firefly is NOT to target her FOR her disability, but an emotional appeal regarding "living life to the fullest", because THAT is that what the first ss is referencing.
-- thus, we can safely conclude that sunday DOES NOT support structural abelism or targets those who are disabled.
-- by OP's logic, we could even consider sunday to be disabled bc his wings are most likely clipped, and he states he cant fly. it doesnt make sense hed self-target.
@planettenko
YOURE NOT INSANE DW ITS POSSIBLE
tiernan was the express' guard and gallagher is part of the bloodhound family (security/guards) atm !! but the only thing im not too sure about is that gallgher said he was one of mikhail (legwork/watchmaker)'s "children" so,,,,
b) this naturally debunks the second point.
sunday has already adjusted his utopia to apply to all kinds of people, because everyone no matter who you are or where you come from, follows the laws of nature, which is "the antithesis of order".
++ through the greatest immoral action :: taking away people's ability to choose reality.
by doing so, sunday not only fulfills the generalized wish of all dreamers in penacony but also ensures that they are safe and cannot be harmed via external means other than himself.
firefly talks about how she enjoys the dreamscape because it helps her feel free in her body and gives her the ability to do whatever she desires. thats the point.
sunday's statement is about fulfilling one's life so that we may all die in dignity when the inevitable day comes.
《 ❃ 》a thread on penacony fun facts !!

all the sunday mischaracterization has gotta stop,,, im tired of explaining 😭 /hsrs
also instead of calling charas ugly we should all go and play robin’s album on loop and cry together 🥹
c) sunday does not say this nor imply this at all. and he even blatantly states himself that "survival of the fittest" which once again, is the basis of eugenics and social darwinism, is the source of where ALL TRAGEDIES IN THE WORLD ORIGINATE.
++ if it reduces overall crime and helps protect citizens. thats sort of the purpose of policemen or the bloodhound family is for too.
and id say at this point, its smooth sailing. sunday has demonstrated multiple times how he tries to shoulder penacony's "dream" himself ++
however we know this is false because when he travelled with robin in penacony, before meeting the dreammaster, one of his reasons for the essentiality of the dreamscape is that it helps make the elderly happy and gives them a peaceful death.
lets continue by defining the scope of what eugenics is. eugenics is a VERY vague term that is not just limited to ethnic cleansing, genocide, "breeding", and structural violence. OP focuses on two facets of eugenics :: race and disabilities. we will be addressing ALL of them.
"building a nest" helps the dove. "building a cage" ALSO helps the dove. sunday isnt saying people are heartless, people naturally SHOULD WANT to help the weak. BUT the issue is HOW they do it.
lets use a real-world concept to understand his philosophy of this scenario.
1. eugenics ultimately finds its racial roots from social darwinism, more commonly known as "survival of the fittest".
-- this form of thinking is most easily linked to the foundation of racist ideals and the belief that the strong get stronger while the weak get weaker.
P.S on the topic of the charmony dove evidence OP provides, sunday's POV is NOT that his care for the dove was wasted, its that he didnt cage the dove.
he asks us to choose between building a nest and building a cage.
//admin
hot take, but i think we should stop labelling things as “ugly”. everyones entitled to their own opinion so it doesnt make sense to force yours on another.
why cant we just say “i dont vibe w xxx” and call it a day instead of fighting,,,
but even if we cast aside the elderly, lets talk strictly about the disabled who are not old.
sunday views not strictly the disabled as "weak" but all of humanity as "weak" because humanity is inherently subject to the cage called "natural selection".

lets break down what OP says into three parts ::
a) "ridding society of the weak"
b) "because they don’t deserve this utopia/fit into it"
c) "the weak are the cause for all of humanity’s suffering"
2. as OP states, eugenicist thinking supports the idea that we "waste resources on the weak" because they "drag humanity behind", which targets minorities and the disabled.
these two concepts are otherwise known as "structural violence" and "structural abelism".
you can even tell a moment of sunday’s inner thoughts speaking when he asks aventurine whether he loves his family more than himself, because it directly reflects his train of thought.
theres a reason why ratio says sunday and aventurine have similar train of thoughts.
