🟦 CLEAN FEED | Pre-recorded continuity is a characteristic of many of our TV channels these days.
But just to mention a nice touch by Dave at 6pm this evening, acknowledging the sad news about Dave Myers, just ahead of an airing of The Hairy Bikers.
[TIMELINE] As reported on the forum, the Bristol Balloon Club has announced that after years in storage, the
#BBCOneBalloon
(a Sphere-105 built by Cameron Balloons in 1997) will take to the air again this year (date TBC).
🟦 CLEAN FEED | Jane Hill says goodbye on behalf of the various London-based teams that have brought viewers the BBC News at One.
From Monday, the programme will be broadcast from Salford.
ITV Sport presenter Mark Pougatch took a few moments during this evening's World Cup programme to pay tribute to technical director Roger Pearce who died over the weekend.
[PRESWATCH] Special version of
#EastEnders
endboard tonight as we transition into a trail for
#FrozenPlanetII
, highlighting the impact of global warming.
[PRESWATCH] Channel 4 confirmed this morning - during the 6.05am link - that its new idents will launch this evening at 6.30pm.
So it's goodbye to the giant '4'.
#Idents
#Channel4
[TIMELINE] Surely the best example yet of "BBC News asked someone from the BBC for comment - but no-one from the BBC was available to talk to BBC News." 😀
@newswatchbbc
[TIMELINE] The news that the BBC One balloon will take to the air again this year has sparked a lot of interest online today.
Is it time to
#BringBackTheBBCOneBalloon
on a longer-term basis, on screen?
A reminder of what it looked like on air...
🟦 CLEAN FEED | It's only taken almost 3 years but the old (stretched) Gill Sans BBC logo has finally been replaced on the EastEnders titles.
The ghastly drop shadow remains unfortunately.
🟦 CLEAN FEED | Presenter Martine Croxall is back on air this morning, on the BBC News channel.
Martine and a number of her presenting colleagues lost on air roles last spring as a result of the merger of the UK and world TV news channels.
[NEWS] The CITV TV channel officially closed at 9pm this evening.
With a few final ads and a CITV sting, the channel went straight to a looped trail, pointing viewers to ITVX.
#CITV
[NEWS] BBC Look East presenter Louise Priest signs off for the final time, as she leaves the BBC after a career in local radio and regional television spanning nearly 40 years.
🟦 CLEAN FEED | Major news event breaks in the minutes before going to air. Planned running order scrapped. Decision to merge world and domestic output temporarily.
Rapidly developing events brilliantly related on air by Anna Foster & teams across the Middle East.
#BBCNewsSix
It's depressing seeing an organisation of the stature of the BBC struggling in this manner. Technical issues are unacceptably commonplace now on the TV news channel. Operational issues affect reputation too; it's not all about the editorial side.
🟦 CLEAN FEED | A bit of TV history today, with the closure of a suite of Channel 4-owned TV music channels.
It's goodbye
#4Music
,
#TheBox
,
#MagicTV
,
#KissTV
and
#Kerrang
.
The channels cease broadcasting tonight.
[NEWS] We don't say this lightly but the new C4 idents certainly have a wow factor about them.
If your interest in TV presentation has faded, this is sure to grab your attention.
Brilliant job
@4creative
and those who collaborated.
>> Tune in 6.55pm C4.
[NEWS] ITV has announced that it will be "updating the look and feel" for its broadcast channels this autumn.
In early October, ITV will offer staff a chance to see "how our channels will be updated to deliver against a more modern and contemporary vision for the ITV brand...".
[TIMELINE] It doesn't happen very often on BBC One but tonight, the new series of Survivor started immediately after Strictly, with no trails/continuity announcements in between.
Very keen to hang on to as many Strictly viewers as possible.
[NEWS] Channel 4 today launched a tongue-in-cheek marketing campaign promoting the large selection of content available on its streaming platform.
The promo reimagines iconic Channel 4 shows as if they were made for a global streaming audience.
🟫 SHOWREEL | A short Newsnight tribute to actress Gudrun Ure, who has died aged 98.
Perhaps best known for the lead role in the 1980s children's series, Super Gran.
[TIMELINE] A particular show of appreciation for the BBC Singers at the Last Night of the Proms.
Earlier this year, the BBC suspended a proposal to close the BBC Singers choir, while it explored alternative funding models.
[PRESWATCH] A special "stunt" junction from BBC One tonight (at 8pm) where every trail featured characters from The Capture.
Even the announcer linking into the next programme didn't escape.
[BLOOPER] More fun with our automated camera friends on the BBC News at One today.
Presenter Ben Brown was undoubtedly glad he had his paper script to hand, as his autocue disappeared out of view.
[PRESWATCH] Today sees the launch of the first new on-air presentation package for CBeebies in over 20 years.
CBBC also gets a new look today.
Here's the first new ident from CBeebies, as shown shortly after 6am.
🙄 BBC East Midlands making up their own logos.
This BBC One logo lettering and font was discontinued over two-and-a-half years ago and should never be used with the current BBC blocks logo.
Please bin.
[OPINION] A small but yet very telling sign...
BBC One news no longer points viewers to the BBC News channel - but to the website.
Be in no doubt about the direction of travel here.
🟦 CLEAN FEED | Not only a proper transition out of Newsnight into dedicated UK programming on the BBC News Channel tonight...
...but the return of a Paper Review!!!
[BLOOPER] Realise that staff are under more pressure than ever (cutbacks and channel mergers etc)...
...but there comes a point when the volume of technical mishaps starts to affect perceptions of the brand.
[NEWS] Although the ITV refresh of channel brands has been delayed, we are expecting it to happen later this month. Provisionally, 15th November. That date could change.
The masterbrand remains unchanged. Channel numerals change font. And in comes ITV 1 of course.
[TIMELINE] Rather an odd end to the BBC News Channel's coverage of the testing of the UK emergency alert system.
We cut to a shot of one of the news galleries, with the audio from the emergency alert test blasting out briefly.
Remembering branding specialist Martin Lambie-Nairn - responsible for some of the most iconic branding in UK television - who passed away on this day in 2020.
[TIMELINE] The final UK-specific live news programme produced by the BBC News Channel in its current form aired at 5pm.
No mention of the combined UK/international news service that launches quietly on Monday, with a formal launch (with new look) from 3rd April.
It's depressing seeing an organisation of the stature of the BBC struggling in this manner. Technical issues are unacceptably commonplace now on the TV news channel. Operational issues affect reputation too; it's not all about the editorial side.
[BLOOPER] The lights went out on Peter Levy for a time during this evening's edition of Look North (E Yorks/Lincs).
The programme is currently operating from a temporary set, whilst construction/testing of a new set continues in the main studio.
[TIMELINE] Well, well.
"Normal people": ignore this tweet. 😀
Compare:
- Publicity image from a number of days back: logo incorrectly constructed.
- Photo of studio today: logo fixed, in line with BBC branding rules.
👏
Great to see Breakfast/Sport finally getting their new studio.
With our branding glasses on, disappointing to see a high profile programme not complying with BBC branding rules.
Current v New. Current=Correct.
- New: Spacing after the blocks❌
- New: "BREAKFAST" height ❌
[BLOOPER] The closing sequence was cued prematurely on today's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, immediately after an interview with Rick Astley.
The closing sequence/credits were recued moments later, when Laura completed her closing link.
PRESWATCH: tomorrow marks the beginning of the end for this BBC logo.
Designed by the late Martin Lambie-Nairn, this logo has been in service since October 1997.
Join us from 6am tomorrow for full coverage of phase one of the rollout of its replacement.
🟦 CLEAN FEED | PresWatch | Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the BBC News theme tune.
To mark the occasion, the BBC News channel played out various versions of the top-of-the-hour countdown soundtrack, in use from 1999 until the present.
🟦 CLEAN FEED | News | Many viewers have expressed concern for the health of ITV News presenter Rageh Omaar following tonight's News at Ten, where the presenter repeatedly stumbled over words and appeared unwell.
The programme is not being rebroadcast on ITV+1.
Love this.
With seconds to go before the end of the BBC One transmission,
@ChrisMasonBBC
is asked who he thinks might get the foreign secretary job.
@thehuwedwards
thinks he's succeeded in wrapping up things...and Chris throws in an "or..." and gradually taken out of shot. 🤣
[TIMELINE] Spot the extra set elements in front of the main desk on the BBC News at Ten, left over from Election rehearsals.
You can even spot the Election logo behind the tower.
[TIMELINE] The smallest of TV stations would strive for better than this.
The BBC News Channel takes BBC News at 10 and Newsnight, live. But the latter often starts before the former finishes.
The result: crashing out of one and joining the other late, missing the opening link.
[BLOOPER] 40 years ago, it was a common sight at this time of the day on BBC One/Two.
These days, the test card is but a distant memory.
It still exists, for internal use. Here it is making an unexpected appearance on the BBC News Channel at lunchtime.
Thanks
@TesTVWhirl
Regular readers will know by now that ITV will become ITV 1 tomorrow morning.
A little bit of pre-launch publicity from Ant & Dec at the start of tonight's I'm a Celebrity... 😀
🟦 CLEAN FEED | Not terribly surprising to see so many inaccurate implementations of the BBC's new programme endboard designs. No proper enforcement as usual.
The copyright line is the most common error. However,
#HIGNFY
has managed to use the old Gill Sans BBC blocks.
[BLOOPER] Bit of a playout blip going into the ITV News this evening.
Looks as though a source potentially showing camera output for Saturday Night Takeaway was put to air in error.
Thanks
@iainsykes2014
for flagging.
