Difficult week after CL squad decision, but thought Donyell Malen put in a really positive performance last night. Key role to play domestically this season & across all comps moving forward, his hold-up/link-up play, movement & threat in final third all very encouraging. #avfc

Big shift from our skipper last night. With the attacking quality we've got now, will likely have to drop back & play that role more often to be a regular in Villa XI, albeit competition there too. Still so important in setting the tone/standard for us to control a game. #avfc

Hasn't been ideal, but credit to Boubacar Kamara, Lamare Bogarde & Andres Garcia for coming in to cover in defence over past couple weeks. Did crucial job for the team in difficult circumstances, hopefully burden is lessened this weekend with CB options back in contention. #avfc

Having had week to rest, recover & prepare was a crucial factor in performance & win. Dip either side of HT, but energy, intensity & tempo was excellent for large periods. Players have said schedule has been difficult, but w/ lift of reinforcements, hopefully tone setter. #avfc
