@labourlewis is spot on. Soliciting for corporates and private equity will only lead to "growth" for a few at the top. Workers, independent SMEs and communities never feel the benefit. The UK #pub and #beer sector is a case study in this folly, but it applies across the board.

@danny28748565 The point is it should have been done at the same time. Small businesses are suffering disproportionately from an out of date business rates system. This government has pledged reform because they know it is needed to help high streets and communities.

The UK #pub and #beer sector is in crisis and there are pro-market pro-growth levers available to the Govt that will benefit UK #SMEs and #communities.

This! We met with Justin Madders yesterday to relay our grave concerns at @CampaignforPubs about systematic anti-competitive practices in the UK #beer and #pub sector, and huge consequent wealth extraction by offshore private equity propcos and global giant brewers. #anti-#growth
Ministers mustn’t now let the CMA become the monopolists friend. Market concentration is already growing - and price markups are already much worse than global averages. Looking forward to hearing from the new CMA team before @CommonsBTC in February
