Following Trump’s announcement of a 10% #tariff on Chinese imports, China has now retaliated. Effective February 10, 2025, tariffs will be imposed on American imports, including: · 15% on coal and liquefied natural gas; · 10% on crude oil, agricultural machinery, large displacement vehicles, and pickup trucks. #Serena2cents

Chinese AI platform #DeepSeek overtakes ChatGPT on Apple's app download rankings in the US. first, there was TikTok, then XiaoHongshu, and now Deepseek. After a few years of decoupling, China and the U.S. have, in fact, become more deeply interconnected. We should avoid framing the China-U.S. friction as a simplistic battle of black and white, or good and evil. Instead, we must recognize that cooperation offers far more opportunities than confrontation between the world’s two largest economies. The latest #XiaoHongShu phenomenon has shown us that this potential of cooperation is still very much alive, and it has even started to grow in the U.S. This could play a crucial role in shaping future dynamics in U.S. politics, especially in the ongoing tug-of-war between pro-China and anti-China factions. #Serena2cents

“好自为之,” a phrase used by China’s top diplomat Wang Yi, came up during his phone conversation with the new U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday. What exactly does it mean? Chinese MOFA says "I hope you will act accordingly " and play a constructive role for the future of the people of China and the United States, as well as for the peace and stability of the world. will Rubio get the meaning behind this?

What's the significance of this trip, here is my two cents #Serena2cents Chinese Vice President Han Zheng has become the most senior Chinese official to attend a U.S. presidential inauguration, signaling Beijing’s interest in resetting its strained relations with Washington, since it is customary for Chinese ambassadors to the U.S. to attend such events. In a meeting with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Han called on American companies to help strengthen U.S.-China trade relations. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to continued openness and expressed hope that U.S. businesses, including Tesla, would continue investing in the Chinese market. Han and J.D. Vance, an incoming member of Congress, discussed a wide range of issues and underscored the importance of these topics in U.S.-China relations.Han emphasized that China is ready to work with the United States to promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of bilateral relations. l I believe the push for less contentious relations between the two powers aligns with the interests of both Beijing and Washington. Stabilizing the global economy and avoiding the escalation of the ongoing tech and trade friction would benefit both nations. Han’s attendance at the inauguration sends a clear message that China takes Trump’s invitation seriously and is willing to take the necessary steps toward a reset of ties—potentially marking a positive beginning for future engagement.

Interesting to see the contrast between the political efforts to ban #TikTok and the CEO's prominent invitation to such a high-profile event!🙃

Just in: China will send President Xi Jinping’s special representative, Vice President Han Zheng, to attend the #Inauguration of President Donald Trump on January 20 in Washington, D.C., says China’s foreign ministry. The ministry stated, "We are ready to strengthen dialogue and communication with the new U.S. government, properly manage differences, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and jointly promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations." Han’s attendance is unprecedented in terms of seniority, as previously only Chinese ambassadors to the U.S. attended presidential inaugurations. #Serena2cents
