Thanks, @philgpbp and @miczahn, for the shoutout on last night's broadcast and for sharing the full story of Collin Graf's first NHL goal with fellow @QU_MIH alumnus Jordan Samuels-Thomas as the referee in the background. Tuesday was indeed a special night for the Quinnipiac community.
The best part about this moment….the referee who signaled the goal is Jordan Samuels-Thomas. Samuels-Thomas is a @QU_MIH alum who scored the opening goal, and assisted the game winner in the 2013 Frozen Four semifinals over St. Cloud State to send the Bobcats to its first ever National Championship game. He is also the first African-American to referee an NHL game. Really cool moment in @QUAthletics history here.

My audience mainly focuses on Quinnipiac and college hockey, so most people who follow Graf would know his story. You make a fair point. I wish I had included that context in the original post since I had a slight feeling it would blow up, but the admin of BR Open Ice could have also added that context. It's not the end of the world. Ultimately, it's about Collin Graf, a great player who scored his first goal in the NHL, and fellow alumni who had a small part in that moment. Again, it was just an incredible moment for Quinnipiac and a tiny Div. I school that doesn't produce a lot of NHL players but is a consistent title contender in the NCAA.

That is not the point of the post. Samuels-Thomas is a Quinnipiac alum who played a large part in the Bobcat's early success when they made the program's first Frozen Four. He scored the program's first goal in a Frozen Four. Collin Graf is also a Quinnipiac alum and arguably one of the best players in program history. He scored in the national championship game to force overtime against #1 Minnesota. This was meant to add extra value to the moment for Quinnipiac and college hockey.
