@orbitellie !!!!!! the Heart part is what makes it fucked up, she doesn’t like any of this shit and she wasn’t born with it, but she was born Into it and i wish ppl didn’t deny the impact of that bc it implies victims that aren’t “perfect” don’t deserve sympathy

like i REALLY REALLY need ppl to start actually processing this bc when it’s denied this shit goes right into perfect victim rhetoric which does SO much damage to real victims. she was in this position before joel’s death and that doesn’t make it any less heartbreaking to me

@elliestricep EXACTLY like i’m getting so tired of the unironic “you think SHE could be violent??” posts w young ellie like….yes bc that’s the point. she never had another option and all ur doing is implying that victims should be perfectly naive and passive at all times. it’s gross

@seattlesellie i feel like so much of what makes her such a compelling and sympathetic representation of someone raised in violence trying to survive is being completely rejected by the fandom and it’s such a disservice to both the character and what the story at large is meant to showcase

@elliestricep the whole violent heart thing neil and craig are telling everyone is complete bullshit, but bella viewing ellie as being violent bc of her life circumstances is not incorrect and i don’t think denying it does the character or story justice at all

@seattlesellie it’s crazy to me that it’s a very objective part of the story that isn’t supposed to make you dislike her but fans seem to be rejecting it entirely bc they actually think if a victim behaves violently that they’re not longer deserving of respect and protection

@elliestricep she objectively does behave violently and it makes 100% perfect sense and doesn’t at all make her a bad person or less deserving or empathy. she wasn’t born violent so the heart rhetoric is stupid but she was raised in an environment that lead to this

@seattlesellie it honestly makes her character resonate w me so much more bc it’s actually a realistic and gritty depiction of what repeated abuse can do and how it doesn’t make the victim any less deserving of sympathy, but that seems to be lost on the fandom and it sucks :(

final point is this is an extremely nuanced character and u are not doing the character justice by denying that her behaviour is entirely shaped by her environment and her experiences. she is not a Perfect Victim and that’s a good thing bc that rhetoric hurts survivors. thats all
