@OriolMD @EinsmanMark That said, you are right to say there is action to be taken, as no language is truly 'safe'. How you do that might be different. e.g. to keep Català high vitality, you might consider ways to keep it used in government, schools, and mass media – as well as in the home.

@jrosell @EinsmanMark Upon further review, we are updating Occità (Occitan [oci]) in Spain to be Threatened, which does indeed make it endangered in all locations. Thanks to you both for pointing this out! It will appear on the live map in its origin location, southern France.

@winenous @thomas_wier Our criteria for being an endangered language is when people stop passing the language on to their children, and that can definitely happen with very different sizes of languages!

@strubegiatortas Romansh is not endangered, but is instead institutional: taught in schools, and adopted in a province by law.

@anthr_pology Hey Henry, those languages are all adopted institutionally (by provinces/regions of their country), and so we do not considered them to be endangered. In most cases, they are also recognized in regional Constitutions!
