Heard a young man this summer say a Drill was a “High School Drill”. 1) It was a foundational drill .2) You are a 9th grader in HS.3) Basketball is a game of small details and needed repetitions. You can’t skip steps. More kids need to see actual high level practices.
I’d say 80% of training camp & NBA practice time is about perfecting the DETAILS on defense, building perfect habits, & working on things lots of young players think they’re too good for: high hands, stance, TALKING, closeouts, etc.

Layton was 4 when @roby_isaiah came on his visit to Nebraska. We all fell in love w/ his personality, smile, & his family. 4 years later he’s now w/ the @dallasmavs about to play his 1st game in the NBA. Took the time last night to make us feel special. Proud to know you, Robes!

Because ya’ll really want to hear what I have to say:. I just coached my son’s 3rd grade 🏀 team. The team we played, ran a 2-3 zone whole game🤮. Youth basketball should be 3 on 3 until 4th/5th grade. Better spacing, more kids touch ball, better skill development opportunities.

Moved to tears! This is the first time since my dad was a kid that he hasn’t attended a basketball game all year. Even though he won’t be there today he wanted to be at our send-off to wish us luck. Had no idea they were going to show up. FAMILY!

My dad lost his PG today. God gained one of the all-time greats! .I never got to see him play but legends of Jo Jo White weaved through my childhood. Jo Jo was larger than life and still remains that way today.

Tommie Smith calls my dad at 7am on 7/16 every year. Never fails. So many others do throughout the day. I’m so grateful for all of his players and friends who do every year. It’s kept him young. It’s amazing what loving and being loved does for you. Happy Birthday, Ted Owens!
