This past weekend we honored National Physician Suicide Day. Bit by bit, one person at a time, we are changing the stigma of mental illness in our medical community. Watch TEDx Talk: Women Doctors are Struggling in Silence here ==>>

The core principle of self-compassion is to treat yourself with the same compassion that you would someone else.

At times, we hide to keep ourselves safe by avoiding notice. A voice inside our head tells us to stay quiet, don’t make a fuss, and don’t complain, or else others will see us and all of the mistakes we make and thus won’t like us. Some call this voice our saboteur.

Our values and purpose are our internal compasses, our very own GPS systems, that guide us through life. They tell us who we are, what is important to us, and what is non-negotiable in our lives.

One of the most powerful things we can do on our personal leadership journey is to create a personal mission or impact statement. Like our values, our personal impact statements encapsulate the core of who we are and who we want to be.

When you sense your own sign to slow down and take care of your body on the simplest level, stop. Do it now. You have the power. You can make this happen. You have more control and agency than you think you do. Allow yourself to rest.

One of my limiting patterns is my deeply ingrained pattern as a hyper achiever. My hunch is that you can relate, as the high achieving, exceptionally gifted woman physician that I know you are. You have likely been an achiever and a learner since a young age.
