Pakistan understands the mentality of Taliban. They did not ask the Taliban to kill, persecute, expel or handover TTP members. But rather they asked the Taliban to use their clout for mediation between Pakistan & TTP.
Now that’s a realistic demand & a lesson for some.
IEA mediating between TTP & Pakistan is a positive step in regards to CT. They have influence over the groups in the region & they are using that influence to resolve the complications with regional states.
Hope they also resolve the complications with US/EU over CT commitments.

Mansoor never had any “close ties” with Pakistan. It was under his watch when Taliban praised TTP leader Hakimullah Mehsud as a ‘warrior & martyr.’
He even repeatedly refused Pakistan’s demands to allow Taliban to participate in talks with the Quadrilateral Coordination Group.
Akhtar Mansour was a drug-lord & a supreme leader of the Taliban. Born in Kanadahar and educated in Pakistani madrasas, he was closely tied with the Pakistani spy agency & used drug money to set up businesses in the gulf. On May 2016, he was killed by a US airstrike in Pakistan.

Public punishments are banned. Women are allowed back at work. Promises are made to reopen the remaining educational centres. Assurances are given to the int’l community about security concerns. Amnesty has been declared.
One should not expect them to change ideology overnight.
So much for the new and improved Taliban: they are now "aggressively enforcing a decree" requiring women to be covered from head to toe and "crushing rare public protests against the order."
