@AwesomePhone @the_transit_guy I’m not saying it isn’t, but that it used to be. Cross country also doesn’t mean coast to coast. That could be Chicago to Denver, NYC to Miami, Seattle to LA, etc.

@AwesomePhone @the_transit_guy That cars solely killed rail travel, hence why I specifically said long distance travel. Airline travel surpassed rail travel in 1955, especially for long distance travel. Cars had more of an effect on shorter trips that could be driven within a day or two.

@AwesomePhone @the_transit_guy It’s just that it wasn’t that cut and dry. There’s more to why rail travel died off.

@MrCrystalMighty @R_Jam17 @dieworkwear Yes it is. If the town or city was developed before the mass adoption of the automobile when the Model T was introduced in 1908, the streets were developed to accommodate horse carriages, hand carts and sometimes street cars.

@MrCrystalMighty @R_Jam17 @dieworkwear Cities adapted to cars. Most cities were built long before the automobile.

@Hacky11189 @usrbinsean @the_transit_guy So then I guess my question is, where do people expect commercial properties to go? Not everything can be a mixed use. That whole area is packed with residential property both SFHs and MDUs. The commercial buildings reside on the main thoroughfare as they should.
