This is what HS is about in my eyes. My boy Thomas, overcoming obstacles to be a JV football player and then comes back and performs in the band at half time. 4.0 student! This is why you coach. Proud of my guy!

If you played football at Rio Linda HS odds are that you tangled with the 7-man sled. It was unforgiving and helped build character and toughness. Renovation has led to its removal. It was cut into pieces today. RIP, old friend, you did your job!

A player:
1. brings a personal issue to you to discuss 1 on 1.
2. asks you for a letter of recommendation.
3. Invites you to their wedding.
4. 15 years later, calls you "coach"
5. Randomly checks to see how your family is.

Negri coached with current Woodcreek coach Brad Hunkins at Roseville.
Negri was the first coach at Highlands High in 1957 and also had stops at Rio Linda, Foothill and Natomas.

One consistency I've noticed in my coaching career has to do with respect for "your area". If your lockeroom is a disaster, equipment is not taken care of, field is a mess, your team's performance matches it. It means something.

Players, prior to you or your family getting vocal about the way you are used on the field.....make sure you are academically eligible. Hard to "pass you the ball" when "you can't pass a class." Get in the weight room too. Odds are you suck at that as well. 📚🖊🖍🏈🏀🏅

Went to our son's high school baseball banquet tonight. It was at a home in the country on a big piece of land. We ate bbq, honored the kids, and then 30+ teenagers beat each other up in the pool. Life is happening again for sure!

Sacramento State RB Cameron Skattebo is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award (FCS offensive player of the year). Skattebo ran for 1,250 yards and had eight total touchdowns during the regular season.

I've never heard a guy that made it through juco tell me they wished they hadn't, no matter the sport. You will learn how to fight with people that will fight you back.
High school seniors if your going to a Juco remember this. Every athlete there is hungry and dying to prove someone wrong.
Find a place :
1) History of developing guys.
2) History of getting guys out.
3) Maybe even most importantly a place where u get an opportunity

Jeremy Reaves played at South Alabama.
He went undrafted in 2018, and eventually signed with the Eagles.
He has been a final roster cut each of the last four season, but finally made Washington’s 53-man roster this year.
And now he’s in the Pro Bowl 🙏

Too much to tell on twitter, but Pete once showed great compassion towards one of my players who filed a hardship to play. He put the needs of the young man over any bylaw. I always respected that. He gave us the result within the hour because he could see the anxiety in the kid.
