Family of my 89 yo landlord called yesterday, his time is nearing. He asked to speak with me. He wanted to assure me that I wasn’t in jeopardy of loosing the ground. He has been like a grandpa to me. Rented me my first farm. I owe much of my start to him 1/3.

I love my small town community. My wife posted on Facebook that one of her students was -$150 on their lunch account, they don’t have the means to pay, she asked for some help paying it. In 22 mins she had $200 donated for 7 individuals. Proud to be apart of a community like that.

So for clarification, the forth largest crop will be over 50% planted in June, will be planted in the mud, and have a crop rating of 57% G/E in late August, all while increasing yield 3.6 bu and dropping crop rating. Math is hard but apparently believing their own math is harder!.

We worked together on another farm when I was in jr high and high school. Learned much about life from him. As we shook hands and parted ways for most likely the last time he says, “if you get there first, you make a mark. If I get there first, I’ll wipe it out” 2/3.

Last pass I’ll make on this farm. Rented it my second year I farmed. The owner, good friend and mentor, passed in 2018. Was the farm that really got my first real chance on. Bitter sweet. Grateful for the opportunity.

Rough day in our community. A 19 yo man was trapped in a bin about 15 mi south of us. I heard about it about 2 pm. The crews are still working now. Educate your hired help, talk to them about the dangers, and don’t take risks yourself. Awful situation.

Moved to our forever home the last few weeks. 16 ac with a 2 ac pond and 8 tillable acs. The house I grew up in. We have remodeled and are beyond excited. That being said, the hardest thing I’ve done in a while was walk through the empty home we had for 10 yrs. 1/2.

True story. My wife has a full time job, raises our two girls, and feeds our crew every night. No take out. All home cooked. She's amazing.
If you haven't thanked your wife for all she does for you during harvest, you should. She works long hard hours too. Just my opinion.

Two years ago at the end of April, I lost my grandpa. We were close. Spent a lot of time together fishing. My unbeknownst to me, my daughter has been sleeping with a picture of he and I for the last couple weeks, because she misses him lately. I got dust in my eyes.

Neighbor borrowed my head to finish his double crops because his Case flex Draper broke. He ran 30 acs, washed it and brought it back. I think I’ll loan it to him every fall.

My wife is an absolute trooper. Not only does she put up with my absence during the “widow seasons” and wrangle our two crazy girls and a full time job, she cooks field meals every night for me and the crew. Rarely is it not from her kitchen. She’s awesome.
