Delighted to have my first byline in the Guardian covering the bizarre story of Elon Perry and how he conned his way into the Jewish Chronicle.

All I can think about at the moment is how much of a missed opportunity Biden's 100 days after January 6th were. A tragic presidency from start to finish.

Everything mentioned here is the complete opposite of Marxist thought.

5/ Rooted in Marxism: Don't let them fool you with "gradualism." The Fabian Society was born from Marxist thought, aiming to dismantle capitalism from within. They just do it quietly, so we don't notice our freedoms slipping away. They learnt from the Frankfurt School.

Why are central train stations in many wealthy European cities (e.g. Brussels and Frankfurt) absolute hellholes but those in much poorer cities (e.g. Rome and Barcelona) pleasant by comparison?

Often understated how important the Free Press was not only in the development but also the conception of America. Hamilton's idea of a society ruled by "reflection and choice" and not "accident and force" required that society had access to the information necessary.

What happens when there's a chronic pilot shortage because there aren't enough examiners to certify new pilots? What happens when navigational equipment is left to rot and fails more often? I think we know the answers.

@uncriticalsimon Wasn't being especially serious with the post but also a reference to the fact that Peter the Great took inspiration from the Dutch flag for the Russian one.

Very much want to write something longer on this, but the central tension facing the European Far-Right goes right back to Pim Fortuyn and Jörg Haider. Many comparisons drawn between the two given they had their lives cut short, but they both had very different vision.

@uncriticalsimon I mean I'd argue it still is (at least with some caveats). The Dutch Far-Right has always been distinct from much of the European Far-Right in emphasising liberal values as point of difference with immigrants. This goes way back to Pim Fortuyn - Wilders has inherited that legacy.

If I were Donald Trump, I would immediately direct US govt officials and media to publicly decry "lying flat", the laziness of youth, and urge them to eat bitterness. That would very quickly win over a significant chunk of the New Zhijiang Army.

If I were Xi Jinping, I would immediately direct Chinese govt officials and Chinese state media to start publicly decrying DEI programs, wokeness, and gender ideology. That would very quickly win over a significant chunk of the MAGA crowd now in power in the US.

As I've said before, absent a done deal, I refuse to take anything reported by lobby journalists on this. Clearly both negotiating teams are playing a game of smoke and mirrors with their briefings.

Exclusive from @georgegrylls Sir Keir Starmer intends to 'push ahead' with deal to cede sovereignty to Chagos Islands and has offered significant concessions Navin Ramgoolam, Mauritius's new prime minister, said his country has been offered 'complete sovereignty' of Diego Garcia, home to a critical US military base He claimed that Starmer has effectively doubled the £9bn originally offered to Mauritius and weakened the British lease for Diego Garcia He said the new deal will frontload instalments and link them to inflation. He also said that Mauritius will now have a right to veto extending the lease He also revealed that Lord Hermer, the attorney-general, was involved in the latest round of face-to-face negotiations
