Behind every cancer diagnosis is a unique human story—stories of resilience, grief, hope and healing. “You're thrown into this world, and suddenly, you really have to advocate for yourself. I shouldn't have to do that, and sometimes that's really hard.” Maria, living with breast cancer, found a promising treatment overseas. But in Australia, delays in PBS approvals mean she and many others can’t access the latest life-saving treatments when they need them most. PBS delays impact people’s ability to work and enjoy time with their family and friends and can also affect their mental health. The pressure on their loved ones means delays in access to treatment, creating a ripple effect that is felt by the whole community. On @WorldCancerDay , let’s honour those we’ve lost, support those living with cancer, and raise awareness for better prevention and treatment options. #WorldCancerDay #CancerAwareness #StrongerPBS #StrongerMedicare

Hayley’s daughter was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at 5 years old and, thanks to access to medication through the PBS, has had a very different journey to Hayley who had delayed access to the medication she needed for her own arthritis. A Stronger PBS will give all Australians access to the best treatment available, when they need it. Pledge your support >>

Maria is one of approximately 20,000 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer every year. A new treatment is available overseas for her type of cancer, but it isn’t here yet. Once approved by the TGA, there will be further delays before it’s available on the PBS. Pledge your support to cut wait times to access new medicines through the PBS from 466 days to 60 days >>

Australia lags comparable nations in the time it takes for new medicines to become available on the PBS. Doctors are frustrated, and patients are missing out on quality of life and precious time with their loved ones. Australia needs a Stronger PBS to give Australians access to the best medicine when they need it. Pledge your support at

Chris was diagnosed with von hippel-lindau at the age of 19 and was told he wouldn’t live beyond age 30. In 2022, Chris became the first Australian to access a new medication in the US that stops or slows tumours from growing. While the treatment is now available in Australia, it’s not on the PBS. Pledge your support for a Stronger PBS that gives all Australians access to the best treatments available.

Australia’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme is one of the most successful public health initiatives in the world, but the way in which medicines are assessed for inclusion on the PBS hasn’t been updated for decades. A Stronger PBS will give Australians access to the best available medicine at the right time.

More than 25,000 Australians are living with neuroendocrine cancer. Broad symptoms means diagnosis can take up to 7 years, by which time the cancer is often advanced. A Stronger PBS will give people living with neuroendocrine cancer faster access to new medicines as soon as they are approved by the TGA. Pledge your support >>

Despite having needed a full shoulder replacement and pins in her toes, Hayley didn’t qualify to access a new biologic medication to treat rheumatoid arthritis until she was also diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. A Stronger PBS will give Australians access to the best medicine available, when they need it.
