@RotherDC Coastal office helped us recover this juvenile male common dolphin from Camber sands, West Sussex last week. #CSIOfTheSea examination found massive right sided haemothorax, consistent with focal blunt force trauma. Cause of trauma not clear- but you have to wonder...

Recovered a harbour porpoise from Worthing, West Sussex earlier today. Rakemarks all over it, looks like yet another bottlenose dolphin attack case... Heading back to @ZSLScience tomorrow for #CSIOfTheSea examination to learn more. Many thanks to @adurandworthing for their help!

And another this morning- young male common dolphin found yesterday at Shoreham, Sussex. Again, fresh rakemarks and what felt like rib fractures. Yet another possible bottlenose dolphin interaction case- #theboysarebackintown...? Recovered for #CSIOfTheSea exam to learn more.

Headed north to meet some colleagues from @CleeWildRescue to help relay recover an adult male harbour porpoise for #CSIOfTheSea examination. Live stranded and died near Immingham, NE Lincs on Sunday. Interesting pattern of healing trauma to flukes and over body- more to follow...

Travelled to Eastbourne this evening to try to recover a harbour porpoise reported stranded at Sovereign Harbour north beach earlier today. Unfortunately couldn't find the body, tide must have taken it. If anyone spots it in the area, please let me know!

Met my CSIP colleague @MatthewWestfie3 this morning to relay recover two strandings back to @ZSLScience. A juvenile common dolphin- and a 100kg+ bluefin tuna, both found stranded together in close proximity in Pembrokeshire. #CSIOfTheSea examinations on both to follow tomorrow

First recovery of the year- grey seal pup picked up today, after being found dead stranded at Dymchurch, Kent last Friday. Heading back into @ZSLScience tomorrow for #CSIOfTheSea exam- many thanks to our friends at @BDMLR for their help!

@ZSLScience @ZSLMarine @SussexDolphin So we end 2024 as we started it- with bottlenose dolphin attack cases on the south coast. So far this year, 9/10 porpoises we've recovered for #CSIOfTheSea examination along the West Sussex coast have been attacked by bottlenose dolphins, a marked change from previous years...

Pilot whale reported live stranded near Immingham in the Humber this week. Unfortunately the stranding location on deep mud prevented safe access and the whale died soon afterwards. The body couldn't be recovered but may turn up elsewhere nearby- please let us know if so!
