I usually ask interview subjects to say what they had for breakfast as a way to check the audio. Sometime they count to 10. But that’s basic. And Sandra Cisneros is not basic.
Instead, Cisneros fires off a poem. Garcia Lorca from memory.
Best soundcheck ever.
Clayton Kershaw thought his press conference was over when he was surprised by a 10-year-old.
The child’s grandfather made a bucket list. On that list: meet Clayton Kershaw. That never happened. He died of cancer. But today Blake Grice met Kershaw. He feels his pappy with him.
Bobby was on his way to Disneyland. It was supposed to be a daddy-daughter day. Instead he pulled over because everyone was texting him the heartbreaking news.
Kobe Bryant meant everything to him. He didn’t see many strong black male role models growing up. Kobe was it.
The LA Times has laid me off.
I'm in a daze. My mind keeps going back to this piece I filmed. The tripod weighing me down, but hungry for more. This is my Los Angeles. And this is my love letter to you.
You don't win a Pulitzer Prize without the help of people coming forward to share their story. Often putting themselves at risk. They're names are often not in the story, but as

says, "we could not have done it without them."
“I had tears in my eyes,” says Grover Castro Tiburcio seeing Joe Kelly wear his mariachi jacket in the White House. Now he’s performing at Dodger Stadium in the playoffs.
“There’s something about music that ties us all together.”
No one is sitting. Everyone appears to be here except Nury Martinez, Gil Cedillo, and Kevin De Leon. I’m told people can’t get into the building, it’s full. The chants are relentless. Mitch O’Farrell tried to make an announcement but is drowned by the chants.
It could be said that the L.A. riots started on the corner of Florence and Normandie on April 29, 1992.
On April, 20, 2021, people gather on that same intersection after the Chauvin trial. A different vibe
In 1982, 18 students at Garfield High took the AP Calculus Exam. All of them passed. All of them.
Seven of those students scored a perfect 5.
The Educational Testing Service thought they might be cheating. They invalidated some of their scores. They made some retake the test.
I walked L.A. looking for stories of how the pandemic was affecting taco businesses.
What I found were resilient people, going through heartbreak, but finding strength in their family.
It’s an honor for the piece to be recognized by the Headliner Awards

There’s something about the trumpets, guitars and violins that bring Dodger Stadium to life. Win or lose, fans start singing along with the mariachi. Many in the Right Field Pavilion crowd the stage to see them perform. The stadium is a small microcosm of L.A.
“I believe in journalism as a public service,” says

I don't know why King Taco is trending but it's a good time to recognize Raul Martinez who converted an old ice cream truck into what many now believe to be the first taco truck.
“They told me I was crazy,” Martinez told The Times about his growing brand. “But ... here I am.”
