@FursieRS6 @vaderbogger @KellyFarmWife @RachelReevesMP @Jamie4North Fantastic tax rules surrounding IHT. Live 7 years and pay nothing. Only survive 1 year and you pay full whack. Or get killed in an accident at 45 and pay full whack. It's absolutely bonkers.

@Robert_K_UK @_RobbieMoore You could buy a farm Robert. i.e. it's not just open to those who currently have farms. Only thing is, you'd have to accept 0.5% profit/return on your investment. What you waiting for?

@_RobbieMoore If you get the chance Robbie, could you ask them... They keep saying farmers can tax plan (7yr rule), but how are they going to facilitate 80+ yr old farmers to do this? Or are those families just going to be thrown under the bus?

@Ed_Miliband I like the idea of home grown energy and bringing renewables into the mix. Yes we'll need some backup peaking plants, but solar, wind and batteries makes sense. The lights don't come on on their own.

@MicOrchard @JamesMelville Solar doubles the land value (if you're the landlord). Dual use sounds feasible.

@MicOrchard @JamesMelville You'll need about 700 acres of maize to provide 500kW with an AD plant. Obviously that's a constant 24hrs/day generation, even through winter, so better than solar in that respect. Not sure how that compares to solar kW yield/acre???

@MicOrchard @JamesMelville I'd have thought previous arable ground turned do solar panels plus permanent pasture underneath... would mean a lot more carbon sequestered in the soil. Pretty clear rent for solar panels is a lot more profit for the farmer than 2t/acre of spring barley.

@MicOrchard @JamesMelville Meanwhile we use about 6 million tonnes of wheat + barley for either making alcoholic drinks or for industrial use. Plus a load of maize for anaerobic digestion. Solar is clearly a better use of the land.

@awesomepromoz @Angelcalling5 Increase in value would be caught by capital gains tax WHEN YOU SELL.

@Angelcalling5 If you want the same deal, then buy a farm and work it for next to no profit or return on investment. Your choice.

@Frank27588842 @agricontract @Keir_Starmer @RachelReevesMP @SteveReedMP @FarmersWeekly @FarmersGuardian @GBNEWS @BBCNews @KemiBadenoch @Nigel_Farage @elonmusk @loosecollie @TWBFarms @wheat_daddy That's a ridiculous comment Frank. With inheritance tax anyone can gift away, live 7 years and pay zero IHT. 89 year old farmers have been thrown under the bus due to sudden rule change. Not unreasonable to ask for an amnesty.
