Us: we are going to do something together as a family. Something like a walk. Kid 1: what about a game of monopoly. Kid 2. Only if we can have alcohol. Us: we were thinking about getting some fresh air. kids: how about drunken monopoly with the window open. Us. We give up.

My PI sent me this after he finished going over my latest paper draft. I gotta say, this did more to silence the little mean voice in my head than any of my own self-care, self-affirmations, or "I'm good enough, smart enough, and gosh-darn-it people like me"s in the mirror.
