Rare yellow cardinal spotted. If you keep a bird feeder, you will occasionally see rare birds, but this is really rare, and beautiful.

This was inevitable, and not the only case - man who called social distancing madness dies of Covid-19 () Nothing like a pandemic to give you a reality slap in the face - but it just doesn't matter for too many people.

This is the kind of news story that has huge implications, but will not get nearly the attention it deserves. Treasure trove of rare earth's discovered.

Red crested cardinal. It's actually a tanager, not closely related to cardinals. Introduced to Hawaii from South America. More from my Hawaii trip coming.

Climbed to the top of Diamond Head crater. Now I know how Sam and Frodo felt. You know - if you add actual flowing lava and 15,000 hostile orcs.

Once again, we have to rewrite the timeline of human evolution. Probably still many fossils out there that will force further revisions.

Hawaiian gecko. Each toe has hundreds of setae, and each of them have hundreds of finer hairs. They are small enough that the van der Waals force becomes significant - an electromagnetic force that allows them to stick.

Getting lots of questions about Dr. Mikovits. She appears to be an anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist crank. She wrote a book with notorious antivaxxer, Heckenlively. Foreward by nutjob RFK Jr.

They have monarch butterflies in Hawaii, and milkweed. The caterpillars isolate the toxin from the milkweed, and use it to deter predators.

Here I am trying to figure out what to blog about for tomorrow. The air powered car is old news. It was a slow science news weekend.

@SkepticalDDS @SkepticsGuide @gorskon @crackedscience @skepticpedi @NECSS @PrismPodcast @FinchLydia @MrMMarsh @QEDcon I still disagree. There is nothing different about skepticism than any other social group. And there is no "class" system - people who's work has value tend to get recognized. Yes, there are self-promoters, like everywhere.
