If the NHL was smart, which it's not, it would have an annual "Original Six" day where only those teams would play. Rangers-Bruins, Leafs-Habs, Hawks-Wings. that's it. Everyone else gets a day off. All games on national TV in US and Canada. A history lesson for this generation.
A girls hockey game this morning at CNA. A year ago only a few girls were even playing in Nevada. Now we have entire teams of young ladies thanks to the existence of the Golden Knights. Awesome to see growth of all youth hockey in SoNV.
Game 1: Knights didn’t belong in the same rink as Avs.
Game 2: Knights knew they could play with Avs.
Game 3: Knights proved they could beat Avs.
Game 4: Knights know they can win the series
I don't know if Deryk Engelland has any interest in coaching. But if he decides to retire as a player, having him as a Silver Knights assistant would be a good way for the VGK organization to take care of him. He'd be good working with the young guys as was the case in the bubble
A year ago today, You also couldn't buy a Golden Knights jersey. Chance was a figment of someone's imagination, there was no City National Arena and you didn't know what the schedule would be. Today, your team is going to play for the Stanley Cup.
Some personal news: After nearly 19 years, I have parted ways with the Review-Journal. It has been an amazing run and my thanks to the loyal RJ readers and all the followers here. What's next? Stay tuned.
Hi everyone: Some personal news to share. After spending my entire life in sports journalism, I have closed that chapter and have begun a new one as the CDC Foundation's PIO for the NV State Immunization Program.
Here's the big news, in two parts. First, I have accepted the position of editor at Gaming Today. I will be staying in Las Vegas and I begin Wednesday. It's an iconic publication. Has been around for 43 years. Looking forward to helping grow it.
Here's the big news: My eight months as an unrestricted free agent has finally ended. I have accepted the position with to cover the Golden Knights. Very excited to be back covering hockey full time.
The Knights have officially retired No. 58 in honor of the Oct. 1 shooting victims. That's an appropriate first banner to hang from the rafters at
@TMobileArena
This will be a difficult day for those of us who live in Las Vegas on the 1st anniversary of the tragic events of October 1, 2017. Let us all pause to reflect & honor those we lost, the wounded who survived as well as their families & thank the first responders for their heroism.
Yes, it’s true. I will be joining
@SinBinVegas
as its columnist. Excited to be back writing about VGK and NHL. Thanks to Ken and Jason for brining me on board. Catch everyone soon!
So honored to be a member of the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2019. My thanks to the committee and congratulations to all the inductees. See everyone June 14 at the Orleans Arena!
What kind of guy is Brad Hunt? Read this story I did on him last March Fan with Down syndrome like ‘little brother’ to Knights’ Brad Hunt via
@reviewjournal
It's easy to say Vegas beat a bunch of lousy teams during the 9-game win streak. But what would everyone be saying if they lost to San Jose and/or Anaheim? They should get credit for not playing down to their opponent's level.

Fleury was able to use his years of experience to forget about the Saad goal at the end of the first. He kept the Knights in it the rest of the way and came up big early in OT until Stone could win it. A clutch performance by No. 29.
Some big news to share: I have been selected for induction into the
@nevadapress
Hall of Fame next month. What makes it even better is my longtime R-J colleague and friend
@janeannmorrison
is also going in as are AP editor Tom Tait and Bob Brown, who was R-J publisher in '60s.
Fleury hears his name chanted by the fans after two magnificent stops. Might not be the last time we hear it tonight. He will always be a beloved figure in Vegas, regardless of who he's playing for.
Some sad news to report. My younger brother Mitch passed away earlier today. Our family is stunned and devastated over the news.
I will be taking some time off from my
@SportingTrib
duties and will not be at Friday’s VGK Game 5 or my other assignments for now. See everyone soon.
Subban on getting his first win: "It feels great to finally get one. I've been trying to stay mentally sharp and I prepare much better than I did last year. Being around Flower, you learn so much."
Due to COVID-19 protocols, the Barracuda-Silver Knights game has been suspended. Henderson led 1-0 through two periods. Strange doesn't come close to describing the scene here.
Andre Burakovsky filling same role for Caps as "TV reporter" as Ryan Reaves for Knights. Asked Braden Holtby about who had the worst beard on team. Holtby points to him and said, "Sorry."
Tonight is Hockey Fights Cancer Night at
@TMobileArena
. As a cancer survivor, it's always an emotional and personal night for me. I will share my story in my Sunday column for
@SinBinVegas
as well as acknowledge some special people in our community who are fighting the good fight
After he paid $500 million to join the NHL four years ago, I suggested to Bill Foley he spend a few million more and put his AHL affiliate in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena. He shot down that idea. Looks like he's about to change his mind.
Having had time to collect my thoughts, I will miss Nate Schmidt for more than just the obvious. He was thoughtful, whimsical, provocative, loyal and just a cool guy. Like so many of the departed Golden Knights, I wish him all the best with his hockey career and his life.
Here it is ... I am returning to
@SinBinVegas
as columnist for the upcoming VGK season. My work will appear once a week, on Sunday, though we will start on Oct. 1 to get the season preview and of course, remember the tragic events on the second anniversary of the shootings in LV.
As a cancer survivor, I always looked forward to the NHL’s annual Hockey Fights Cancer initiative. I felt a special feeling inside
@TMobileArena
when the
@GoldenKnights
held their HFC night. Sad what’s going on with this shortsighted decision.
That's it! The Golden Knights have swept the Los Angeles Kings in their opening-round Stanley Cup playoff series, winning Game 4 1-0. Will play the San Jose-Anaheim winner in the second round.
An emotional Bill Foley called Monday a great night for the county, the city and the Golden Knights fans. Gave all credit to GMGM, Gallant and the players for making the playoffs in their inaugural NHL season.
The Sabres are in town to face
@GoldenKnights
. This would always be a special day for our good friend, the late Brian Blessing. So sad he’s no longer with us. Miss you, kid.
I'm crushed by the news of the passing of my friend
@BrianBlessing
. We shared so many good times together for years, both on and off the air. Condolences to his wife Marie, his granddaughter Gracie and everyone who knew him. RIP B.
Stone is expected to be in Las Vegas this evening and be at the morning skate. Whether he plays vs. DAL is Gallant's call. But I would expect him to be in the lineup barring anything unforeseen. Who he plays with? Ah, the guessing has already begun.
What a wonderful, amazing day! It was a tremendous honor being inducted into the
@nevadapress
HOF. My profound thanks to everyone who has reached out with calls, texts, emails, tweets and in-person congrats over the last few weeks & today. It means more than you'll ever know.
For all of you
@SinBinVegas
followers, I'll be taking over the account and posts for tonight's VGK-Wild game while Ken gets a well deserved night off (he's back in Chicago visiting family). My followers will get the same post so you won't feel left out. Should be fun.
And now part 2. I have written a book on the Golden Knights. "Vegas Born -- the remarkable story of the Golden Knights" comes out Monday. You can purchase it online at , and beginning Monday.
The more I hear people try to be creative with singing The Star Spangled Banner, the more I appreciate
@goldenpipeslv
. No shtick. Sings it on key with respect for flag and country.
#NHLAllStar
#Fail
Robin Lehner made a one-goal lead stand up and the Golden Knights have arguably their best win of the year, 1-0 in DC over Ovi and the Caps. That 5 on 3 kill with Lehner leading it was so huge, especially given who had the two- man advantage.
Guess the word is out.
I'm getting back to work, doing what I love, which is covering sports in Las Vegas. Excited about joining
@SportingTrib
team as the Vegas columnist and looking forward to reconnecting with all of you.
Fleury apparently headed back home to be with wife for birth of their latest family addition. Makes total sense now. Especially given the way the schedule is falling
Back in Las Vegas following my brother's passing last Thursday. Our family is overwhelmed by the love from so many people. Thank you to everyone who tweeted, called, emailed and texted me. I am so grateful to you all. My late brother will be happy the Knights are still playing.
Today would have been my brother Mitch’s 65th birthday. We lost him last month. He was planning to celebrate here in Vegas. Gonna be a tough day. Happy birthday in heaven kid.
BREAKING: James Neal and Marc-Andre Fleury will represent the Golden Knights along with coach Gerard Gallant in the NHL All-Star Game in Tampa Jan. 27-28. Details to come.
VGK Prez Kerry Bubolz: "The support from our community has been incredible. But we will not be holding an end of season parade. We will reserve that to celebrate a championship."
X marks the spot! The Golden Knights are headed to the playoffs in their inaugural season after defeating Colorado 4-1. They also regain their six-point edge over San Jose for first place in the Pacific Division standings
Ryan Reaves: "Hearing the boos after I scored was probably my favorite moment of this series. It's been a little weird. I have a couple cousins that came in Jets jerseys; a best friend came in white T-shirt, so they're going to hear about that after."
Haula: $2.75 mil
Miller: 3.875 mil
Total $$ off books to VGK for 2019-20: $6.625 mil.
Apparently, President George attended an economics/math class at Bowling Green. Maybe HOFer Jerry York can confirm.
Still work to do but they'll get to the cap.
Some news to share: I'm returning to write my column for
@SinBinVegas
beginning tomorrow and every Sunday thereafter. My thanks to
@kenboehlke
and
@JRPothier
for their support and especially
@bigjim6464
for his sponsorship of my work. Excited to be back!
Think about this VGK fans, on this day a year ago, your roster was comprised of Reid Duke, Tomas Hyka and Vadim Shipachyov. GMGM wouldn't pick his team in the expansion draft for another month.
Bill Foley says on Vegas Hockey Hotline VGK has room to do another deal by Monday. said might be a “secondary” move but loves the Martinez deal because didn’t involve giving LA any prospects.
Some personal news this morning; I have resigned my position with Vegas Hockey Now effective immediately. Thanks to all of you who followed and supported me on the site. Special thanks to those who subscribed. More to come soon on my hockey writing endeavors.
Just realized I left out an element in my
@SinBinVegas
column today: it's family reunion time for Reilly Smith Monday whose brother Brendan plays for the Rangers, and Malcolm Subban sees big brother P.K. Tuesday when Knights face the Devils.
I know these days everyone is watching sports on their phones or streaming video of their favorite teams on their tablet or laptop. But there's something about listening to a game on the radio, whether it's at home or in the car, that's still special. Doesn't matter the sport.
